I only know of a few "tight ends" that have grown into tackles in recent years and nobody did it like Rayfield Wright did. Back then, it was easier for a bigger TE to become a tackle. They maxed out at 260-270s in that era.

Jason Peters IIRC was a tight end who grew. The infamous Kendall Watkins was also a project we tried to do that with. Bennett's blocking is fine, but he's not that dominating of a blocker or that awful of a receiver that this has to be done. In fact, if he focused and grew a brain and a sense of urgency, he would be a weapon in the passing game.

Good question but I believe it would be possible with supplements but he would have to add the weight in his butt and legs... and that is one of the reasons that it would have to be atleast a 2 year project...I just don't know if it is easier to try and draft a LT or to home grow one...

With Rayfield and Tui they were both conversions...with Flo he was drafted.

I can't say one way is better than another but LT has to be looked at as a need for this team if not today than sometime in the near future.
Tuinei was a defensive lineman that went to offense. That is much more common that TE to OT.

It is unusual to "grow" a LT. Peters is a rare modern example.

Just draft a good one and high.

TEs usually max out around 260. You have to add around 50 lbs to be big enough for Tackle. And you have to have the wingspan and height is also a good thing. So you need to find a 6-6 or 6-7 TE at 260 that can add 50 lbs and still be nimble. Tough to do.

Look at Bennett's frame. To me, he does not look like he could carry it to be honest. You need a fatter person like say Alge Crumpler if you want that kind of thing.

To compare Rayfield Wright to Bennett first you must remember how dedicated and professional Rayfield was. Bennett is NOT in his class.

That is perhaps the simple truth of it.

True enough but aren't most teams going with the smaller quicker pass rusher such as dwight Freeny and trent Cole

Probably would be the best way if the price isn't too prohibitive

I'm not sure they have to be that big right now as most teams are going away from 300 lbs DE's...Bennett is currently 6-6 266

It's an interesting thought. I'm kind of in the same boat as Alexander on this though in that I'm not sure, just looking at him, if he could really bulk up the necassary amount and remain as athletic as we'd like him to be there.

Certainly understandable...especially if you believe they have to be 300+...my believe is that somewhere around 280-285 would be sufficant and that is a matter of 14 pounds for Bennett to add

I asked Marty a few times, he said he doesn't want to put on the weight required because it will effect his chances with the ladies.

I am not kidding.

I almost mentioned that possibility... But I was going to be half joking.:

Bennett has the frame for 320lbs. That I don't question at all. The question I ask is can he put on that much weight and hold on to it. Some people, especially at younger ages have more trouble handing onto weight once they get it.

He doesn't appear to have much body fat. He appears to have substantially less body fat than Witten.

Until I turned 28, (and quit smoking) my body fat percentage didn't even sniff 7% and I ate like a freaking cow. My body just naturally burned energy as fast as I could take it in.

If he is the same way, he will have trouble if not putting it on, keeping it on.

All he has to do is show his Football card and the gold digging tramps and hoes will come out in groves.

Just a week or so ago here, people were arguing that Free, at 313 lbs., was too small to play LT.

I think that discussion took place in a thread that was intially focused on how Columbo should be switched to LT. (Ouch!)

I like Free, but we saw what Jared Allen did to him. Free still lacks power and punch. Allen would steamroll him with his bull rush, and he isn't the only one.

Really now? Free shut down Allen when he was man on him, right? Didn't Witten allow the two plays.

Jared Allen did that to a lot of LTs this year, and most of them with a lot more experience than Free.

Plus if we are going to judge him by this one game, we need a whole new line.

You're on drugs. Bennett has so much more physically ability that it makes your statement laughable.

Lots of guys with tons of physical ability never do squat in the NFL.
