The Vermeil game you refer to was in December 1980 (I was at the game!). Based on the tie-breaker rules Dallas had to win the game by 25 points. It was a fun game to watch. Landry really opened up the offense and early in the 4th quarter Dallas was ahead 35-10. Unfortunately the Eagles got some late scores and the final score was 35-27.ZeroClub;2253610 said:I'm vague on the details, but I seem to remember a strange one back in the Dick Vermeil days when the Eagles lost the last regular season game at Texas Stadium but rejoiced at the end of the game because they still held some sort of tie-breaker in their favor (point differential) because it was a close loss.
It was strange to see a team celebrate after a loss.
Thus we had the strange scene of the Eagles celebrating the NFC East title after a loss--keep in mind this was the first title of any kind for the Eagles since 1960--so I guess they were excited.
