Best drafting team since 2014

We draft well when we let the draft come to us. We mess up when we try to reach for a position. Taco and Mazi are prime examples of that. But overall we do great with the draft and that’s the key to managing the cap. Extend elite players or players at positions hard to draft. Churn the rest with young, cheap players. If we’d just add in a bit more talent in FA would be nice
The exception to this seems to be the OL. When they've drafted for need in the 1st round there, it's worked out thus far.

The main sore spot is the DL-- especially with Taco and Mazi as you've mentioned.

If we had not have wasted so many 2nd round picks on risky prospects, our depth may not have warranted those reaches.

Oline is a fairly easy position to pick at least an avg guy. Dline is harder because it’s a really hard position, requires goid technique to succeed and it a position you have to go all out all day to success. You need guys who really love football to do a grunt job like DT

They draft well period when you compare them to the rest of the league.

Jerry is right about the talent we have drafted...wonder we can't win a home playoff game?

Osa's due. He's been playing great football for a while now.
He really has.

If he doesn't get a sack this Sunday he will have gone one full calender year between sacks and that is just exceptional for a starting 3 tech.

I'm very pleased with how we do drafting OL, especially in the first round. We should just use our first-round pick on offensive linemen and build our defensive line, especially the interior, through free agency. Of course, next year we might not need a first-round OL. It probably depends on if we think Richards or Bass can replace Martin if he retires.

I’m happy, just wish we could have hit one good quality guy from last year. They completely blew that one.
I don’t know about completely. They drafted Overshown and Jalen Brooks, and it’s too early to give up on Mazi and Schoon.

That’s kind of true.

The success rate of DL prospects is usually in the bottom half compared to other position groups, but it depends on the methodology- what defines success.

Knowing this, I wish we would have taken more flyers on athletically inclined players from trench warfare conferences in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. To be fair, we’re getting a lot better at that.

OL is easier, but our highs have been tremendously better than what any team should expect.
