I'll add Penny Dreadful to that list also.

I liked the UK version of Being Human. That's the original and IMO better than the US version.

Blood- C
it can remain unknown to you in my opinion. On the other hand, its predecessor, Blood+, is a very good maxi-series of about 50 or 52 episodes. Additionally, a number of cuts on the soundtrack were created by Hans Zimmer.

"When you came in, the air went out
And every shadow filled up with doubt
I don't know who you think you are
But before the night is through
I wanna do bad things with you

Okay..."

One of Netflix's best anime series offerings, which spawned a sequel Castlevania: Nocturne that just debuted.

:starspin::starspin::starspin::starspin::starspin:

The original but not Hellsing ULTIMATE. :)
- That True Blood intro opening theme song sounds like it could have been used for potential Etrigan the Demon movie ? Hmm ;)
I cannot think of a vampire TV series that compares and surpasses True Blood.
At one time, I actually thought there would eventually be a spinoff of sort, as there tends to be with some mega-hit series.

- Thanks. Good to know with Hellsing Ultimate, I need to check to see the titles of any Hellsing volumes I do currently have.

- I'm just a HUGE fan of Castlevania ! Art work format, plots, weapons & personal super-powers, special characters
and villains, various designs of the creature features, time era, action battle sequences and violent content,
..and of course, it's Vampire content.

One day, Hollywood will grace us with an Etrigan movie. One day. ;)

Being Human is somewhat within the True Blood stratosphere. I have not seen the series Interview With a Vampire yet. It is on my to-do list but Mayfair Witches is above it on my to-do list to be honest. Ironically, both are based on Anne Rice material, lol.

For me, True Blood had the benefit of the almost no-holds-barred cable television format HBO usually delivers. The series could be as dramatic, gory, graphic, etc., as it could ever want, combined with top notch dialogue HBO is famous for.

HBO is not unknown for its sequels. Perhaps True Blood will get an eventual sequel but I doubt it will appear on that cable network.

There is one thing to consider between Hellsing and Hellsing ULTIMATE. The latter was produced as close to its manga as possible. The former was toned down and replaced some story elements. On the other hand, Hellsing ULTIMATE is unbound and comes at the audience 200 mph.

If a viewer is squeamish, I would not recommend Hellsing ULTIMATE. If not, buckle up.

Personally, I know Castlevania is a really good show because my wife loves it. She has even re-watched it. She does not lean towards shows like it because it is full of gore and blood (which I keep telling her is hypocritical since she is a HUGE fan of Supernatural ). However, she gives it a thumbs up and I love it, so that makes it a very good show in my book.

Trevor Belmont. Sypha. And Alucard. Now THERE'S a trio I could go to war with against any foe, lol.

I would love for horror (and thus vampire) movies to be able to give that same fear and chilling thrills they used to when I was a kid. Sadly nothing duplicates that same safe fear.

Two of my faves I haven’t seen mentioned:

‘Shadow of the Vampire’ (2000) - Wilem Dafoe and John Malkovich send up the making of the Murnau classic, ‘Nosferatu’.

‘The Fearless Vampire Killers - or - Pardon Me But Your Teeth Are In My Neck’ (1968) - Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate make a campy hommage to our favorite Eastern European neck-biting pests.

Buffy, Angel, Dracula 1931, Draculas Daughter and a version of Dracula made around the 70s with Louis Jourdan.
