So I'm not a huge Metallica guy anymore. I've gotten older, tastes have changed, and different types of music are more appealing to me these days. That said, Metallica is one of those bands that left an impression on a lot of us. I remember exactly where I was sitting when 911 happened, where I was when the Indian Ocean earthquake happened, what I was doing when Emmitt broke the rushing record, and where I was the first time I head Kill 'Em All back in 83. It was unlike anything I've ever heard and a prelude to one of the most influential rock bands in history.

Yesterday while mowing my grass in the oppressive Texas heat I decided to cycle through my old neglected Metallica playlist. Again tastes change, and I find myself skipping through songs that I used to really love and being drawn instead to songs that maybe I wasn't as big a fan of in my youth. So as of this red hot minute what's the best Metallica song?

I'm gonna go with...Fade To Black

Too many to list. I couldn't name just one. There are tons of them pre-Load albums.

Load albums were sketchy, but King Nothing is definitely one of my favorites that came from the Load albums. Most albums after Black where sketchy though. Prior to that, a majority of the songs were good, very good, or great.

For Whom The Bell Tolls is the song that put Metallica on the map for me. My buddy's brother came over with it the day it was released. Fight Fire with Fire played and I was OMG, that is heavy as hell.

Then Ride The Lightning played and I was like. Wow, that's pretty good.

For Whom The Bell Tolls played next and I was back home begging my mom to go buy the tape for me! Off to Musicland we went minutes later! For 15 or so years after that I lived, breathed, and slept Metallica.

I love you all like brothers, but anybody saying Enter Sandman is the best Metalica song ever is dead to me.

Master of Puppets is the only acceptable answer to this question, and I don't want anybody to argue with me or I'll have to put you on 'ignore' in my head, forever.

Enter Sandman is a great song, but I agree. Definitely not the best. Master of Puppets is an incredible song too, one of my favorites, but to be honest with you. It's not even my favorite on that album! Battery and Orion most likely are. Hell, there isn't a non-great song on that entire album! Leper Messiah, Disposable Heroes, Welcome Home, The Thing That Should Not be, >>>DAMAGE INC<<<.

That is one of the best albums in history and Ride the Lightning is right there with it. Name a single only decent song on either of those albums. Even their other top albums Kill'em All, Black, And Justice for All, do not come close to those two albums. They are the epitome of perfection.

Fade to Black is a great choice, but I have to go with Master of Puppets. Those two albums (RtL and MoP) are their best IMO.
