We have a very good opportunity to find a franchise QB. Will we do it? Probably not.

What we should do:

Release Dak. Take advantage of a strong QB class and draft the best of who’s remaining (likely one of Bo Nix, Michael Penix, JJ McCarthy will still be available when we pick).

We’d go into the season with Trey Lance and a high-potential rookie competing for the starting job. Trey Lance would have his opportunity to prove why he was drafted #3 overall.

If we have a terrible season, we’d go into 2025 with a top pick where we could potentially draft the best QB in the next class.

This doesn’t guarantee we’d get the next Stroud/Love/Mahomes, but it would give us 2-3 high-potential QB prospects to find the best one to build around.

What’s the alternative? If we keep Dak, we likely don’t draft a Bo Nix and we likely don’t give Trey Lance a shot to prove himself. If Dak fails again, we won’t have a good pick. We wouldn’t find any cheap vets better than Dak (best we could get is a Carson Wentz).
We don't make painful decisions around here.
We just keep doing the same dysfunctional things hoping for a different result.
What a cluster bomb this team is.

Pretty much nothing you said matches reality. 2 of those QBs you really don’t want and other isnt making it past 6.

Meanwhile after the team takes a step back, here is the kicker, they still won’t be drafting high enough to get “the top” guy next year. In the NFC East and still too talented at other positions so you are still winning 6 or 7 games which is just enough to not be able to rebuild properly.

Difference is Denver (with Sean Payton) is not afraid to pivot off a loser, while JJ’s ego will never allow him to pivot off of Dak. Example, JJ kept the “Clapper” for 10 years.
But we can hope this sets a precedent.. as the money they gave Wilson was insane. Coupled with the fact early success for QBs is becoming a norm, with Jerry getting to see his “prime” QB getting outplayed by Love and Purdy, both first full-season starters in the playoffs along with Garapolo, now is the time to move on..

In today’s NFL, you don’t need 10 years to rebuild. Look at DETROIT, Green Bay, Houston, Philly twice, San Fran, etc. But it’s a gamble. Jerry’s ego is too big to take the gamble.

Option 1: Burn it all down. Hire a young coach. Find a young franchise QB. Maybe be great in 2 years. Maybe need to do it all again in 2 years. Option 2: Hire a legacy coach. Sign a vet to build around Dak. Potentially get blown out in the wildcard round by a team that did Option 1.
You choosing the Lions as a short-time rebuild model is laughable.
Detroit's last appearance in the playoffs - 2016
Last winning record (before going 9-8 a year ago) - 2017.
From 2018-2021, the Lions finished last in their division, with records of 6-10, 3-12-1, 5-11, and 3-13-1.
Far from an ideal rebuild timeline.

Lost in the sheer disgust in the Dallas crapshow is how impressive Jordan Love looks. The dude looks like a young Aaron Rodgers... It's just sickening how GB somehow continues to pull this off at the QB position.
I’m not saying he isn’t the next Brady, but the separation average on completions was almost 8 yards. I’ve never seen anything like that at any level of football, even Alabama vs. East Chattanooga A&M.

Nope, these fans are so delusional they will believe whatever hype JJ spews out in the offseason and once again think this is the year. 28 years and counting.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I just disagree. Sure, some fans will be buyers next year-- there always are.

But the regular season doesn't matter anymore to a large swath of others.

Sadly, I don't imagine he shall look so special next week when San Fran are eating him.

That he looked a world beater against our D is not an accurate measure.

You should draft a QB every year, regardless of round. You should load up on undrafted QBs and run through them. You never know who is going to turn into something. You draft one even if you have a franchise QB already. The position is too important to be without. The league starves itself for quality QB play of any kind. Always take the QB position and if it turns out to be something you're dealing from a position of strength. Take QBs and load trenches. I want mine protected and yours disrupted. The team has drafted 5 in 23 years.

SF will make things tougher for sure. But look at his skillset and his stats the 2nd half of the season. Something like 18 TDs to 1 INT.

Jerry is 81 he’ll never do it. He doesn’t have the time.I expect McCarthy to be let go and Dak to be extended. I’ll stop watching at that point.
Like Einstein said “ The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result”. Maybe Stephen can convince him who knows.

Dak will be traded before he's released. Still, I don't think either will happen. Although, a change in scenery might be best for Dak and the Cowboys.
We can either cut or trade Dak.

our June 1 cap hit is the same.

It does benefit Dak if he is traded. He keeps the 29 million base for 2024.

The time is short though.

He is due a 5 million roster bonus in early March.

Probably right

But it’s the first time in a long time that the health of the brand that Jerry values so much is probably dependent on cutting ties with a marquee player.

Fan enthusiasm, and hopefully spending, will not be there until this whole thing is shaken up.
Disagree on the fan enthusiasm not being there….next September everyone will be right back in front of the tv, right online buying stuff and ready for the “hope” all over again. It’s the nature of the beast
