What? No Skyler Green?

My vote went to Witten. I still remember the excitement I felt the moment he was selected; and his selection has paid off royally for Dallas. The scary thing is that he still hasn't reached his potential.

Agreed.

I remember a bunch of us in the chat room during that draft yelling for Witten to be drafted in the 2nd round and being mad when they passed him over.

Then getting him the third the chat room exploded with cheers.

If you are talking about pure skill I would say Ware has the potential to be the best player.

If you take into account value, I would say Witten, James, and Canty.
If Ware lives up to expectations, I will be pleased, but you sort of expect a guy taken #11 to do that. Now a guy like Brady James, you hope you got something there, but if he doesn't pan out, it's not the end of the world.

first off, we cant have players like carpenter on there, they havent played a single down!!! second of all, id say it was witten for two reasons....

1)he was a later pick
2)he is the best player out of the bunch

Interesting that BP gets so much love for Newman.

Do most of you then believe that Newman was BPs pick as opposed to the then current staff, IE Jerry and the scouting dept.?

Do you have some inside info, ABQ? :)

I tend to think that Parcells was just "okay" with the Newman pick... That he really wanted Robertson or Williams, and when those didn't work out, he agreed to Newman. So I'm with you that he might not have been Parcells' first choice.

I do think Parcells was pleasantly surprised at Newman's work ethic and professionalism once he got him, though. Now Parcells seems to really like him.

But I don't think Jerry would have forced the very first pick of Parcells' tenure if Parcells had insisted he didn't want the player.

No, no inside info. Just a feeling I had at the time.

I agree with you in the perception that had BP been diametrically opposed to Newman, he would never have been a Cowboy. Because he was "OK" with the pick, or so I suspect, Jerry damn near broke his hip getting the card to the podium.

:laugh2:

Trading down to get Julius and adding a 1st rounder (Spears). By far his best decision IMO. Give Julius some time, he will be a star.

Looks like it's you and me in the Julius camp.
I think he's going to be a legit superstar for us this year.

Geez, not a peep about Crayton??? I was the only one who voted for him... Crayton has come a long way since he was drafted... He may not be a special teams ace, but he has terrific hands and he DID win the Commander game with his long TD catch against the great Sean Taylor in 2004.

I'm giving a lot of leeway on any first round pick, because hey, they are first rounders... Don't worry, I think everyone who voted for Witten is right on, but I didn't vote for him because he REALLY slid in that draft IMO... He was talked up for months before the draft as being the best TE in the draft... He was right up there with Dallas Clark of Indy, but as always, spit happens... Clark was the first TE taken and Witten lasted until the 3rd, the rest is history.

Why did Witten slip to the 3rd round again???
Still do not understand that.
I'm happy he did, but what a steal that was.
The two best players that Parcells has drafted are Witten and Newman.
Newman was seen as a sure-fire top 10 pick, so his success does not suprise me.
Witten from everything I was reading before his draft was seen as the top TE in the pre-draft mags.
There were 3 TE's drafted in front of him I think....Anyone got an answer as to why that happened?

BTW-I think Ware has a chance to the be the best player in a year or two.
Not yet though.

intriguing how witten fell. he's by far "value wise" the best of lot. in time ware should prove to be bp's cornerstone. pressure players are too important and ware is a difference maker.
