What do you think?

I once had a Psychology professor tell me that it was Layla by Eric Clapton, absolutely not the acoustic version.

Personally, I don't know. There are so many good songs that I have heard and probably so many that I haven't heard that I don't think its possible to make a clear cut choice.

I don't even think it's possible to name the best rock & roll song ever, but I'll just post one of my favorites:

two of my favourites at the moment

firstly although i would class the band as rock and roll i think the songs more pop but that might just because it has permeated popular culture so much, well in this country i don't know about the states. either way i don't think its possible to listen to this song and not be cheered up.

and for some reason i've found myself absolutely loving this song the last few weeks.

both songs from long before i was born by the way.

might as well throw in a classic from my generation

I prefer the acoustic version

Can't Get No Satisfaction

Have to agree with burm on this one. If not, its definitely something else by the Stones.

Gimme Shelter is the only Stones song that I really like.

1) Satisfaction by the Stones is THE rock n' roll song of all-time.

Keith Richards tells about the night he first played the legendary chords to open the song. He was tired/stoned/drunk one night and was playing around on the guitar and played those chords. It was a good thing he recorded the practice because he fell asleep/passed out and didn't remember a thing the next morning. He listened to the recording and remembered.

Keith also talked about how he thought he would be sued for plagiarizing the chords from the song Dancing in the Streets (I think).

2) Chuck Berry's Johnny B. Good.

3) Bad Company's Shooting Star

I love the Stones and I'd have to put that as their best song. But as far as best 'rock' song (so in another words, the song that I feel sums up rock more than any other) I'd have to go with Jumping Jack Flash.

I've been sitting here thinking about all the great rock music that has come out over the past 60 years, and there's just absolutely no way I can come up with one that I can say is definitely the best rock song ever.

And I think that's a good thing.
