Best Rock & Roll Song Ever?

Where are the lyrics? While it is a good song with good guitar playing, there are no lyrics. Rock songs must have lyrics, especially to be considered one of the greatest.

No they don't.

Frankenstein by Edgar Winters group is one of the greats.

Eruption by Van Halen is one of the greats.

Some of the great surfing from dickie dale, venturas and other bands of that ilk...songs are instrumentals.

Star Spangled Banner played by Jimi Hendrix

Green Onions by Booker T and the MGs

XYZ and La Villa Strangiato by Rush

Dee By Randy Rhodes

Jessica by the Allman Brothers band

A number of songs from Jeff Beck

Personally I think Joe Satriani is better known for Surfing with the Alien and I also like a few of his other songs better than the one posted...but to each his own.

But thing again I am a guitar nut so I probably listen to more of that ilk than you.

Schools Out
Midnite Rambler

Progressive Close To The Edge

I too like Surfing With The Alien. From the perspective of Satriani and his ability to just play, that's probably a better piece. I like the arangement with the acoustic guitar and the keyboards better in Always With Me, Always With You. It flows better for me and I just like it. However, I don't play so I probably don't have the same kind of appriciation for the technically harder pieces the way you probably do Brain.

Here's Surfing With The Alien for those who may not know it.

More Than a Feeling -- Boston

Weird.

I was gonna say that when I saw the title of this thread. I'm not a huge Boston fan, but that's just a real strong, well-put-together rock song.

It was the first song that popped into my head.

Boston is one of my all time favorites. I love just about anything they did in there early works. I do like More Then A Feeling but I don't know, I might like Foreplay Longtime better. Heck, I like Don't Look Back, Peace of Mind, Smoking, I like a lot of there stuff. When I was young, I listened to a lot of Boston, which is probably what's wrong with me today.

:laugh2:

Love Boston's Rock and Roll Band song.

The part where he hits those high notes singning...Sign a record company contract.

That part always gets my hyped up and a case of the goosebumps.

I've got no idea what the best ever is, I can't pretend to know enough rock to know, but one of my favorite songs ever is Ænema by Tool.

Of course, when I think Rock & Roll, I'm usually thinking 40's, 50's and 60's, so you gotta think Chuck Berry:

Sorry, WG, but Chief is my new soul mate. ;)

That's a great tune Brain. I agree, they had a really distinct sound. A vocalist in Brad Delp, a great drummer with Sib Hashian but what really made that band go was Sholz, the lead Guitarist. He had a sound in mind that he perfected using Rockman and multiple guitar riffs combined into a unique sound. Great band to me. Really like Boston.

Pity about the lead singer. You don't see too many people who commit suicide with charcoal fumes.

What can I tell ya, he was a canuck I think.

This song probably inspired more kids to pick up the guitar than any other.

Jeff Beck - People Get Ready
The Who - We Don't Get Fooled Again
Dire Straits - Tunnel of Love
Bob Seger - Roll Me Away
REO (old) - 157 Riverside Avenue
Jackson Browne - Running on Empty
Prince (uh-oh!!) - Purple Rain (say whatever, but he lays down some wicked licks in this song)

I would have loved to have seen Chuck Berry and Jimi Hendrix work on some music together. That would have been awesome.

This song never even makes any lists of top rock songs but I'll vote for it.
