Nice thread. I hope to see more of these type, especially during the long offseason...
Thanks, you guys did well. I don't think I would have ever guessed Pelluer in a million years, or even Quincy Carter for that matter. That's part of why I did it, it was surprising to me to see them with those kinds of numbers.
Staubach was our only real "running" QB, a guy who both scrambled to buy time and ran for yardage. He put up good numbers throughout his career but was less effective after 1975. He still ran as often but not for as much yardage, which is a sign that he was doing it more out of scrambling than on planned running plays. This is just one more reason why he is my #3 all-time QB (behind Otto Graham and Johnny Unitas).
Romo is more of a scrambler who is looking to buy time for someone to get open but I'd like to see him run the ball more often, especially when there is an open lane for good yardage. That would result in fewer fumbles and INTs as well.
Aikman ran well his rookie year but after his 5th season he became more of a pure pocket passer. He could do that with our O-Line which made him one of the least sacked QBs in the league form most of his career.
In the middle of his career Meredith ran more on bootlegs and when things broke down. Later his knees bothered him and he didn't run as much. He was as tough a QB as I've ever seen.
Guys like Craig Morton, Deadslow, and Vinny Greenballs were pocket passers with little mobility. Danny white was pretty mobile but didn't run much, he would scramble to buy time but was unlikely to run the ball.
I would have expected Quincy Carter to be a better runner than he was but he sucked at it. He had skinny legs and poor footwork.
Anyway, if I think of any other trivia games like this I'll post them. The offseason is a dead time of year and I'm always looking for something to relieve the boredom.
