Jerry Rice was drafted in 85, that’s a pretty big difference
I was under the assumption this was about how good a team was, not just ranking their roster. I know the '89 49ers were a really good team. They went 14-2 and cruised to a SB win. But I think that 55-10 win in the SB played a big role in their ranking.

The 1984 49ers went 15-1 and played a very talented 14-2 Dolphins team in the SB. Beat them convincingly, but didn't blow them out. That Denver team in '89 wasn't very good. They got there by default because the entire AFC sucked. I was working at New Jersey Bell (now Verizon) at the time and I bet my entire paycheck (450 bucks) on the 49ers and gave 22 1/2 points. I could have bet 900, but I didn't have that to pay if I lost, so I cut it in half. But I was pretty confident.

85 bears and ain‘t even close.
Baloney. 93 Cowboys easily beat the 85 Bears. Cowboys defense was comparable and the Bears offense was mediocre. Cowboys had an offense that scores on that 85 Bears, and a defense that the mediocre offense of the 1985 Bears would have trouble putting up enough points to keep up with the output of the Cowboys offense. 93 Cowboys also had clearly better special teams.

Top all time:

93 Cowboys
84 49ers
72 Dolphins

I have a PFF subscription and they are all but shut down this time of the year. I suspect this was tweeted by one of their college interns.

Not even on the list:
A top three all-time team (if not best) was '91 Washington team under Gibbs. They simply *crushed* teams by margins never seen w/any other team. They had it all.

Top three all-time (in no order)
-91 Washington
-89 SF
-07 Patriots
Those 70s Steelers squads has a crazy amount of Hall of Famers on both sides of the ball.

Agree, will take our OL pre Big E injury against any D. Just don’t see any D being able to withstand the punishment just run it down there throats. It will take affect after awhile.

The 93 Cowboys had to beat teams that were better than most on the list: Buffalo and SF.

I’ll list it by greatest teams of the decades .

1. Steelers 70’s- most dominating team in my lifetime
2. Browns- 40’s & 50’s- 7 championships
2. Packers- 60’s- 5 NFL titles
3. 49ers - 80’s- 4 Rings
4. Cowboys 90’s- 1st team to win 3 out of 4 SB
5. Cowboys 70’s- 5 Super Bowls , 2 Rings and 7 champ appearances
6. Dolphins - 70’s - 3 consecutive SB’s, back to back Rings
7. Wash 80’s - 3 SB rings
8. Raiders- 70’s and early 80’s- 3 SB rings
9. 70’s Vikings and 90’s Bills best to not win a SB with both 4 SB losses
10. Patriots - Best of Cap era dominating 2 decades 2000 & 2010’s with 6 SB rings

Yep, I'm with ya on your number one Diehard, I didn't scroll/read your list before posting.

I also thought it interesting the Super Bowl losing Pats get that kinda love for not finishing the deal.

But now does this make us haters for posting our opinions that aren't of the homer flavor?

yeah imo there is no best team ever.
And if you wanted to do a best team of a decade, it should be a team that had more than one great year.
1000%

I'm biased, but I can't stand it when someone tries to rate the 95 Packers over the early 90s Cowboys

For some reason, our back to back super bowl winners are grossly underrated.
I don't get it either. Everyone openly acknowledges those teams were pretty straightforward. We are going to do these things. Can you stop us? No one could. Plus, we didn't just squeak out wins in the SB.

We had the balance of size, power & speed to stack up against anyone.

They did and not to be disrespectful to them or any other team but in the early days of something, it's much easier to be head & shoulders above those that came before.

The NFL did not really mature until the mid to late 80's. The talent pipeline was finally in place to feed the league like never before. Teams began to be much more complete in terms of talent.

Humans have simply become bigger, faster, stronger and more importantly trained in the skills of the game since childhood.

They would get ran over by a lot of teams that came after them. Sorry, but I just don't see any way around that conclusion.

The 92 and 93 Cowboys were pretty darn good, as close to the most complete team as I ever saw, they should be very high on the list. The 89 Niner team had an unstoppable offense and good defense. The Steelers in the 70s didnt have a weakness, the 78 team may have been their best.

Just watched the documentary on the Bears, and that defense was tough, the offense & rebel QB just had to not make the big mistake. Miami figured them out.... but in the playoffs they beat QBs Simms, Dieter Brock, and Eason and Grogan in SB, except for Simms not really scary.

We were #1 on D and #4 on O. The Champ game vs SF really wasn't that close.

This, just remember those Stealers team didn’t really have any big guys along that DL, our OL would maul them to death with size at each position.
Can't look at it that way. Must recognize changes in the game. Most teams in the 90s would beat teams in the 70s. Different game.

Most dominant SB win I remember was Pittsburgh/ Minnesota 1974. The 16 to 6 beat down was nowhere near that close and the outcome never in doubt. Pittsburgh held them to 119 total yards, 9 first downs, forced 5 turnovers, and held future HOFer Tarkenton to a 14.1 QB rating.
