I am watching For a Few Dollars More for the umpteenth time. One of those movies where you just stop no matter what you are doing and watch if it happens to come on TV. Got me thinking, I wonder if there was a better western ever made. Such a classic. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and A Fistful of Dollars might give it competition for best ever western. In your opinion, what is the best western ever made?

I cannot nominate one as being better than all the others.

The Searchers
Outlaw Josey Wales
Good, Bad and the Ugly
the original True Grit
Tombstone
High Noon
The Wild Bunch

Those off the top of my head and I no doubt can come up with more. Duel at Diablo is VERY under rated.

Best Western? Mmm. I know. Mr. Ed Plays Ping Pong.... oh wait

I would probably have to go with
good bad and ugly as the best.
you should ask for a top five there are many good westerns .
1 good bad and ugly
2.Unforgiven
3. tombstone
4 .for a few dollars more
5.Fistful of Dollars.
The amazing thing is that the spag.
Westerns were made in the 60,s!
and are still good!

It's not a shoot 'em up western but I love McLintock!

Also love a bunch already listed. The first part of the Lonesome Dove mini-series is some of the best dialogue ever seen in a western. It didn't hurt to have Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duvall playing the lead characters as only they could.

Tombstone absolutely qualifies and is a classic. I'll watch it anytime it's on, even if it's halfway through.

Rio Bravo was fantastic. Might be my favorite classic action western.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is my favorite Eastwood western.
