Better Call Saul starts this weekend

Woah. I didn't realize that. I need to go back and watch that scene again.

I'm guessing that with his brother basically telling him he's not good enough to be a legit lawyer, the process to becoming Saul Goodman is on the fast track starting next episode.

Sooooo... Season 1 was dedicated to the transformation.

He does have a point. The first time we are introduced to Saul in BB, he is exactly what Chuck was describing.

Yes. And it's clear from this episode why.

His brother pushed him that way by being a giant piece of crap.

There is nothing worse than some ******* who thinks they're so much better than everyone else because they took a different route to get there.

I think you're right but I believe Jimmy is already a better lawyer than his brother simply because Jimmy actually cares about people and it appears to me that everything is about status and being a big shot, and seeming like a big shot.

Well while you're worried about how your little brother might not be good enough you're out there not able to do your job Chuck because you're such a mentally weak chump that you believe you've got a condition that you don't have.

Another thing is what Slipping Jimmy over came to become the lawyer.

Sure he did not go through the same process but he overcame his past to become the lawyer. Even with his perceived inferior law education he still passed the same bar (after multiple times) as his brother passed and another thing that should be of note. His brother went through all of those boxes to do the wills for the old people and with his vast superior education and how he became a lawyer he did not catch what Jimmy caught. He did not catch all of that until it was pointed out to him by his brother with his inferior education and his brother saying was a short cut to get where he got.

Exactly.

He's already proven he's as good, or better, than his brother and I believe that's one of his brothers problems.

All I am saying is that it seems like they both come from the same place, as far as their family goes. We don't really know their back story, so this may not be true, at all. But assuming they both had the same opportunities in life and Chuck became a distinguished attorney and his brother was a two-bit con artist working in the mail room at the age of 30+, I can see why Chuck did what he did. He didn't want him to become Saul Goodman. He knew that is exactly where he would end up with a law degree, and as far as we know, that is exactly what happened.

I'm not saying Chuck isn't a crappy brother, I am just saying I can relate to his perspective.

I hear ya. It's a good point.

Well....as is often the case ... The 2nd or 3rd to last episode is better than finale.

I mean, I get it. I see what they were doing. But... His final last step into his "transition" could have been a little ... Well.....more....

Do you all think something tragic will happen to Chuck by the end of this series?

You seen the big guy buying it from a mile away. Well...Most people would be able to see it coming a mile away.

I think it happens early on or in middle of series. A significant event for Saul.

Did you all find the bingo hall scene more comical or sad?

Both. More sad. Betrayal... Brother.... Almost Michael Corleone style.
Then....I'm outta here.

Yup. There is going to be a wake of destruction as he gets deeper into the muddy waters.
Kim too.

I wonder when we are going to be introduced to his bodyguard, Hue. Loved that guy in BB.

Wait until he gets his 20% from the Sandpiper case, changes his name, gets his big white Caddy (like Marco told him), and his own office. Then he'll be able to afford Hue.

I wonder if Mike gets Saul to hire Hue.

Mike is going to be in Saul's good graces from the start and until the end...My guess is that Mike starts off doing it all but tells Saul he needs someone as his "full time" body guard so they get Hue to fill in. These leaves Mike to do transactions away from the office.

Just speculation on my part.

I agree. After watching it. It was very anti-climatic his decision to just go into being who he becomes as Saul.

But that's fine. I have no issue with it. I still like the episode even though it wasn't the strongest. I liked that we got some more background information on him and I'm loving the show. I can't wait for the next season.

Yeah, maybe Mike recommends Hue to Saul when he goes to work for Gus.

So Slippin' Jimmy is on his way in for an interview with the other BIGGER law firm - they're really interested in having him come aboard due to the raves that he's gotten from his 'elder law' clients. And as Jimmy's walking toward the building he glances at the pinky ring his pal and fellow conman Marco left him as a final bequeath and...

Apparently he had some cathartic moment - maybe an inner dialogue along the lines of:

'Hey... I AM Slippin' Jimmy! These guys aren't going to let me in their 'club' just like my own BROTHER, Chuck wouldn't let me into HIS (oh, maybe the mailroom - but definitely not the inner sanctum). And even if they DID let me in I'd be constantly looking over my shoulder - it's only a matter of time before my Slippin' past catches up to me. Because it REALLY IS like Chuck said. People don't change. I'm STILL Slippin' Jimmy... and I recently had my hands on a bag that contained $1.6M. Did that really happen? OMG, WHAT WAS I THINKING!'

I'm really looking forward to next season.
