See above two posts. Makes sense to me.

how does that make sense?? if you wanted to play a fruity game like that, then you would have to put accelerator clauses based on where the next years #1 pick fell into the contract... Quinn gets bonus of so and so, if Browns finish in Top 5 pick... so, the worse Quinn plays, the higher the pick, the more money he makes?? Come on... that's just crazy talk... his value is #22 + next years #1?

He is gonna get paid based on his draft spot this year give or take some... he will not get any where near the Top 10 money he desires, nor should he... the NFL would nix that contract straight out, it would set a bad precident...

 Quinn wants Top 10 money.. club doesn't want to give it to him, cause he was not a Top 10 Draft Pick... what is the club doing wrong??

They are crowing about how they had him rated as a top 5 guy -- every agent in the world is going to jump all over that.

that still doesn't negate that he fell by all of those other teams and Cleveland failed to trade up for him, until he got to Boys... he got drafted a certain spot...

When the Cowboys drafted Canty in the 4th round and turned around and said he had 1st round talent, In that case it makes sense to pay him 1st round money?

The team isn't gonna give him top 10 money and the league wouldn't let them if they wanted to...

They can do whatever they want -- the only limit is what he gets THIS year

It looks to me that Brady Quinn's situation and money should match J.P Losman.

Both invlove the Cowboys coincidentally.

Both were picked in lows 20s Quinn 22 and Losman 23?

And both picks were not just #1s at 22-23 pick but one could also argue they are a 22 AND next year's #1.

So their value is 2 #1s.

Anyone know what Losman got? It should have been more than just 23rd money.

It seems pretty cut and dry. The hold-up doesn't make sense when there is already a precedent IMO.

This is what I found on Losman's deal:
Losman signed a five-year contract with the Bills in July 2004. According to the Associated Press, the deal could be worth $24.5 million if Losman reaches all the incentives. The deal also reportedly included a $5.6 million signing bonus.

Then this is a different article I found about Rodger's Deal:
According to a source, terms of Rodgers' contract were almost identical to the five-year, $7.7 million deal Buffalo's J.P. Losman signed last year. Rodgers will receive roughly $5.4 million in guaranteed money and, like Losman, the 22nd pick in the draft a year ago, has escalators written into the contract that would increase the total value of the deal to almost $30 million.

haha they can not do whatever they want... the league has to approve the deal...

And just like the NFLPA pressuring a player to enter FA to get the best deal possible, the league/owners would summarily frown upon a deal like that... While there are no set rules as to how much to give a player, certain unwritten guidelines are followed...
