Better Team - 1977 or 1992?

Which team do you think was better overall between these two Super Bowl champions?

1992 and it’s not even close and yes, I watched both of them.

If the 77 Cowboys had played the Steelers in the Super Bowl and had won, I would say the 77 Cowboys.
I just feel the Denver Broncos weren't a tough enough nemesis to claim the rights to best team over the 92 Cowboys.

For example, although they're a dynasty by sheer number of Super Bowls they won, I don't consider any of the Patriots teams among the best Super Bowl teams because they really didn't have to beat a super team. Maybe the LA Rams, but they proved to be short-term wonders. And the one super team they had lost to the Giants.

The 92 Cowboys, however, had to run the gauntlet, beating the 49ers in San Francisco and had to beat defending champions Washington and the NY Giants. And let's not forget about overcoming the Philadelphia Eagles with Reggie White, Jerome Brown, Clyde Simmons and company. Then, they just dog stomped the Buffalo Bills in the Super Bowl. They defeated some of the best teams of their time.

Sorry, 77 but it's the 92 team that gets my vote.

I watched both teams and the 92 team was hands-down better! The 92 Cowboys are ranked in the top 10 all time by many. That team was great offensively and defensively and was very physical! Reminded me of the Steelers teams in the 70s. The 92 Cowboys just lined up and road graded opponents. The 77 team was a great team as well but the 92 team was so great we pretty much won three Super Bowls with many of the same core players. That was a dream team!

I would say the 71 Boys team was actually greater. Look at how many HOF players were on it; and other great players.
On Offense Roger, Bob Hayes, Rayfield Wright, Mike Ditka all HOF players and Duane Thomas, Calvin Hill plus several other excellent players on the O line.
On Defense Bob Lilly and the rest of the D Line that was nearly as great as you will find; Lee Roy Jordan; Chuck Howley; Cornell Greene and Adderly, Mel Renfro and Cliff Harris.

Great teams are more than their physical ability.
a good high school team could beat the Bears of 1940 but SO WHAT?

Difficult to say, but give me 77.
Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Robert Newhouse (my top five DC of all time), Drew Person, Harvey Martin, Butch Johnson, Golden Richards, BillJoe DuPree, Rayfield Weight, Ed "Too Tall" Jones, Randy White, DD Lewis, Cliff Harris , Charlie Waters...etc...

The 77 Doomsday Defense was absolutely dominating. The offense was damned good as well. It’s hard to compare teams across eras due to drastically different rules and the size differences. I will say this without any reservation. The 77 team was more dominant their season than the 92 team was during their season.

77 team had an opportunity against the Steelers in 78. And we would have been team of the 70’s. Came real close in 75 too with not as great of team as 70,71 or 77 and 78.

I’ll always believe 70’s was Cowboys best decade. But the 90’s team for 4 years was best team in franchise history.

In 1977 no other team even came close to the Cowboys in terms of dominance.

They had the #1 offense and the #1 defense, the only time in history they ever pulled that off.

In the playoffs the Cowboys defense forced 19 turnovers as they held all three teams to 10 or less points.

That would've been a great matchup. The 1977 team had more experience but the 1992 team was loaded with talent.

If it was possible for them to play each other I'd be first in line to buy a ticket. It'd be a great game.

Landry vs Jimmy, Aikman vs Staubach, Dorsett vs Emmitt, Pearson vs Irvin, Doomsday I vs Doomsday II - how much fun would that be? Either way, the Cowboys win.

I believe the 92 Cowboys, 49ers, Bills, and Eagles are the four best teams ever assembled. Those four teams would beat any team from any era. There have been many good teams. But those teams were good and deep. Something that can’t be replicated today. Even the 92 eagles team could beat the 85 bears as they had a terrific defense and a more threatening offense.

It’s a shame salary cap and free agency stripped the Cowboys of the 90’s of so many starters.
The depth we had was unrivalled and free agency more than injuries stopped us winning at least a couple more titles.
