Thats precisely why I favor FPI and other projections over top 25 polls until about week 4.
USC was ranked 6th last year pre-season.
It was based almost solely upon Caleb Williams.
The last few weeks before the season starts drags so much; all we have is this sort of crap to talk about.

OK State football players to wear QR code on helmets for NIL money

The QR codes will be displayed on 1 1/2 square inch decals that feature each players' name and number. Fans can use their phones to take photos of close shots on broadcasts and postgame photos posted on social media. They will be provided with a link to the general team fund for every student-athlete on the roster.

Kansas State: Kleimann is another of the elite Big 12 Head coaches. And Avery Johnson is a legit 4.3 QB. The question will be can KSU handle losses along the OL while getting Avery going as an all-around threat. Most folks think they can. KSU is a common choice for the Big 12 Championship game and they have serious CFP aspirations.
Most around here think the OL will be fine. Might take a couple of games to work out some of the kinks. As for Avery, he is from my home town and I saw him play in high school. To say he is legendary is an understatement. There is more buzz about him than there was for Barry Sanders when he left high school. The expectation from Wildcat fans is making the playoffs and hopefully winning a game or two.

I follow Wildcat folks heavily online. Great group! John Kurtz is a great youtube watch.
My high school teammate Darrell Harbert was a KSU OG.

I think the loss of Beebe specifically will sting. He is a generational guy. 1 of the 5 most dominant collegiate OL I have ever seen.

Avery was kept at the expense of a guy starting at Ohio State so yea that bar is the roof.

KSU will be very good indeed. I'm just not sure they'll be CFP good. A lot will depend on how Avery advances as a passer. And on that OL gelling.
I trust the run game a lot with Avery and DJ. Can they pass and defend the pass? Those will inform just how far they go this year.
I could see them being a year away from the CFP.
I don't love them having 6 road games and 10 Big 12 games.
But they do miss Utah.

That Arizona game early will likely stake a claim for the Big 12 CG.

yea this is another one I am torn on.
--like Baylor "we pay players" shirt.

told all the players agents to stop calling and asking about pay same day it is announced they will advertise on their body for the NIL.
but it does get it talked about and usually talking about paying guys helps.

Pretty much chalk week 1 for the big 12 teams.
Houston on a full rebuilding exercise lost to UNLV.
WVA lost a top 10 PSU team much like last year.

Rest won games against mostly low-level opponents.

My Red Raiders escaped by the skin of their teeth versus an FCS school so gets bumped down any power rankings to just above the bottom tier.

Utah looked dominant and moves to the top on most power rankings. Very much a CFP threat at this point.
