Big game, but not a "must win"

There is also the possibility that we have play this same scenario again in the playoffs.

If we could at least win the division the Giants would have to come to Texas Stadium, IF that scenario were to reoccur.

If we want to be sure to make the playoffs and host a game then we must win.

I sort of expected these kinds of responses. The game is certainly big, as I stated. "Must win" is the game that you have to win or will be absolutely screwed - like get eliminated from playoff contention for example. "Every game is a must win" is 100% not true. If you are 14-1 going in to the last week with home field wrapped up, the final reg. season game is not a "must win" at all. People rest starters in those situations.
Do not mistake my post for minimizing the importance of the game. It's big and it would be an important win. However, the sky will not be falling tomorrow if we are 7-5 at the end of the day. It would suck, but we would still be able to win the division if we have a better record than the Giants over the final 4 games. We are still totally in playoff contention even if we lose. That was the point and hopefully some will keep that in mind if tomorrow ends up sucking.

We haven't won a division game on the road this season. This game DOES have big implications on whether we have any post season aspirations.

I agree with you. Lets not throw around "must win" every week. The reality is, if we lose this game (which I don't see happening), we will still be tied for first in the division. Yes, the Giants would have the tiebreaker but that means absolutely nothing until the end of the season. Fact is, if we do better than the Giants in our final 4 games, we WILL win the division, no questions asked. And if we beat the Saints, we'll have the tiebreaker over them and in pretty good shape.

But with that being said. Our guys need to destroy the Giants tomorrow. We are the far better team right now and need to show it. No fluke turnovers and stupid penalties. Just execute and get the hell outta there with the W.

Kind of makes me lol a little, remembering just a few short weeks ago, after the last giants game, how all the so-called experts were saying the starting of Romo was Parcells preparing for next year. Who'd a thunk we'd be in such a tizzy over this game now!?

:D

Well you're right. It's not a must win.

However as others pointed out, we need to put this team behind us. If we do then we will have won a game in the division, beat the team right now basically 1/2 a game behind us, won on the road in a very hostile environment and played under stress.

If we win we prove we belong. If we lose then we go back to being just a contender.

Not a must win but as important as they come behind having to win to continue get in the playoffs or stay in them.

Kudos for going out on a limb and stating fact though.

It depends on your goals.
If win tommorrow and take the next four, we will be the #2 seed because Seattle will lose in Denver.
We will also have the neccesary confidence and momentum to make a serious play-off run and perhaps beat the Bears in Chicago.

If we lose I say we still run the table to finish 11-5.
In that senario we will probably still win the division because I don't see NYG going into Carolina next week and gettin a win. Carolina is too good with far too much at stake.
I also see us still taking the #2 seed because the NFC South winner Car/NO will be no better than 11-5 with a head to head loss to us. Seattle will probably finish 10-6 with losses at Den and to S.D. at home.

11-5 #2 seed with 4 straight wins to end the season is still pretty good.
But you still have to ask yourself. Are we really a Superbowl team?
Can we win in Chicago?
12-4 #2 seed with 8 straight wins and there's no doubt. Were headed to Miami.

What's crazy is that I think next weeks game at home against New Orleans is actually more important.
We beat the giants and yes we will win the east. But if after that win we go and lose to the New Orleans. We almost certainly will be no better than a #3 seed behind New Orleans.

Call it want you want...a win is a step up, a loss a step down on that stairway to a championship.

That's assuming the Bears continue to win. I think they are not as good as us right now. Grossman has to prove to me he can stay focused and win under pressure.

I fear the Giants and New Orleans who are one of the better teams in the NFL. That's crazy to me as I thought their defense would put them in the bottom third of the league. I was wrong.

Right now we are the best team in the NFC and arguably in the NFL. JMO

I'm convinced we are the best team right now. And not just in the NFC. I will be very surprised and disapointed if we do not win the next two weeks.
