BIGG Davis, there are concerns.

You have to remember the guys playing across the line from Davis are collecting a check too. And if you think just because we paid BIGG $49 Mil just mean guys on the other team will just wave a white flag and say, "Well Dallas paid millions for this guy-- I'm not even going to try to compete-- He's obviously the greatest offensive lineman to ever play the game."

That'd be nice. :)

Even in his prime, Larry Allen sometimes got beat. Of course, Davis is not Allen, but I'm just saying...

Yes, but Allen blocks TEs and kickers too! You can't say that about Davis! :D

Everyone gets beaten to the punch sometimes. If Bigg gets beaten 3-4 times a game, he still is a vast improvement on what we had previously.
You mean, no one is perfect? Shocking.

Thank God for Romo's ability and agility to get out of the way sometimes. The guy will struggle sometimes, as long as it's not all the time. But the way he was moving guys off the line was pure dominance.

I've never seen us convert so many 3rd and shorts since the glory days of the early to mid nineties.

Davis better start playing hop scotch! He needs to be equally good in pass protection in order for Dallas to have success.

I thought he only played Tackle for the Cardinals... did they use him at Guard too?

Yes. And apparently he played pretty well at the position as well.

First time checking in since the game.

Leonard Davis looked really good run blocking, even dominant at times. I really like that, and knew we would get that from him.

But folks, I have read all the excitment about him, and I understand that, and he should be an upgrade over Rivera,

BUT
It's a little late for buyer's remorse. Are you just stirring the pot to see what floats up?

This is not about buyers remorse, I dont have it. We signed him and he is a Cowboy.

I am not trying to tear Davis down, he brings some good things to the table. But it is evident people are getting real excited about him, they are reading the press clippings and going with it. They are seeing pancake blocks and saying hell yhea.

I am just trying to make a point. Davis always has had that problem of getting beat on pass rush moves, especially with quicker lineman. He has plays where his feet just get stuck in the turf and he does not even lay a hand on the rusher. I have watched him and studied him enough to know it is a reoccuring theme.

Maybe no one else cares, but if Romo is laying on his back 3 or 4 times a game because Davis is whiffing on his man, than that is a concern, it also evens out some of his really good play.

I have been hoping Davis has improved in this area, I was specifically watching for this, and it came up twice, the same thing I have always seen previously.

I am just pointing it out for those who really would be interesting to know Davis did not just dominate like many around here think he did the other night.

But if most want to just ignore the fact and throw him in the Pro Bowl, so be it.

Dude, every lineman gets beat 3-4 times per game. That doesn't mean he gives up 3-4 sacks per game. If you're worried about getting beat 3-4 times per game, where's your problem with Gurode? Dude gets beat like a drum in space.

can someone post the video of Davis getting beat? I didn't record the game and I would like to see it. I only remember big pressure on 2 plays when Romo was in there and I know one of those was Gurode fault.

Just curious to isoloate on Bigg and see the problems.

BS!

theogt I am not talking about where the other guy just gets the best of you, I am talking about whiffing, barely getting a hand on the guy. It turns into a free run up the middle at the QB. Yes that is a problem if it continues.

And no not every lineman gets beat that bad 3 or 4 times a game. Maybe slightly beat, but not whiffes. Come on theogt think about that. So every game there are 15 to 20 whiffes and free runs to the QB given up by the line.
Oh please, if that happens Romo will lead the league in turnovers and probably not make it to week 8.

GET REAL!

Bigg still concerns me in the passing game. I have posted more than once that I went back and looked at games he played Guard in Arizona. One thing was very obvious. If he gets his hands on you and is in front of you, you are not getting close to the QB, but if a quick move is made on him there are times his feet are just stuck in the ground and the DT is quickly inside to the QB. It seemed to happen about 3 or 4 times a game.

Twice this showed up in the Pre-Season game against the Colts. I have really been hoping this is an improved area for BIGG, after last night it does not seem to be.

So what I am really saying here is I expect at times for BIGG to just look dominant, but the history shows about 3 or 4 times a game he is going to get beat with a quick move in Pass Protection and Romo is going to go down quickly with a hit or sack.

I love watching the big man knock people silly in the run game, but his pass protection still concerns me. He has to improve in this area. I am wondering if he can.

Skip Bayless? Is that you?

So in the first pre-season game on a new team with new teammates, playing a postion he hasn't played since his rookie year(maybe second year?) he's not allowed to miss a block?

Ok fully understand.

Please carry on

Yes, linemen do get beat 3-4 times a game. Every one of them do. It's going to happen when you're facing 60 plays per game.

In two drives, Davis has 3 pancakes, drove 2 defenders back 5 yards by himself on a single play, and only whiffed once. That doesn't count the 8+ plays where he stonewalled his defender.

He was hands down the best lineman in the game.
