Bigger Disappointment: Tapper vs Gregory

I’m gonna roll with Tapper on this one. With RG out Tapper should’ve stepped up and been a contributor, but he failed to even show up.

I don’t hold any ill will towards RG because he has been battling something most of us know nothing about, and unfortunately the NFL doesn’t approve of his way of dealing with it. I’m very encouraged over his progress and hope that he’s reinstated and will contribute this year.

Gregory, 2nd round pick, loads of skill as a pass rusher. Tapper was always a boom or bust player. Converted college 5t who was going to need time to develop. People had unrealistic expectations on the kid because he ran a faster than expected combine time. Usually if a de doesn't produce in college there not going to on the NFL level!

I just hope Taco doesn't end up in this category. I still have hope for Tapper and Gregory but it is just that. Hope.

With that said my question to Cowboys fans is which do you consider the more disappointing player at this point and why?

My opinion is Gregory. Why?

Draft Values
Pick 1: 3000
Pick 10:1300
Pick 60: 300

We have the rights to Gregory for 3 more years. He was considered a top 10 pick. We got him at pick 60. Even without the suspensions, he was unlikely to do much his rookie season. Needed more weight.

If we get him this year, we'll have gotten a top 10 pick for the price of pick 60. Way way way ahead. And it looks reasonably possible. We should be thrilled.

Meanwhile, Tapper has consumed 2 years of our rights, has been perennially unable to get on the field, and it turns out he has a congenital back defect, the likely cause of his missing one year.

Disappointing that Gregory couldn't get off the weed at first, but his problems were known and baked into his discounted price. That disappointment was just optimism not panning out.

With Tapper, it's just bad news, worse than expected, and not baked into his price.

Gregory, most teams 2nd round picks are key contributors to there teams except most of ours.

Jaylon is set to contribute plenty. Gregory might too. If he actually stayed clean all this time, it's looking pretty good for him.

If they play, they contribute big. I've got no problem with delayed contributions. Guys with risk and delays look underpriced in NFL to me.

Jerry and Will keep up the good work......The Glass man vrs the Drug man...both major BUSTS....next please and leave your dreams at the door!

Neither has been a contributor to any worthwhile extent.

With that being the case, I'm inclined to rank them a tie.

The individual who drafted both players is the biggest disappointment in my opinion.

The Cowboys are the disappointment. They drafted both knowing there were problems. On the other hand, if they would have passed on Gregory, and he went through this with another team, but became a stud. The question would then be, " Why didn't the Cowboys take a chance on Gregory?"

Gregory.
Higher pick, part of the 3" first rounders" draft class. Self inflicted suspensions. Yea, I agree weed is better than opiods but still.

Tapper on the other hand was taken day 3, and started off his NFL career discovering an issue in his back that was not diagnosed till then. Year two he breaks his foot.

Neither at this point.

Gregory was a risk taken in the 2nd round, and could have been, and maybe still will be a steal. This story is not over. Goodell still has a another 6 weeks to reinstate him. Then it is back to the team to have him at TC.

Tapper, was another of those mid round DL picks they tout that could have been drafted higher, but their draft status dropped because of X reason. Russell, Tapper, now Armstrong. And all 3 picks we really did not need to do at the time. Lets see what happens here also.

This year will be both Gregory's and Tapper's last chance to do something at least with Dallas. So I won't choose either one. This is like asking which player is a bust, JJ or TJ Watt.

Bigger disappointment? One player's career potential has been stymied by inadvertent injuries. The other player's productive promise has been negated by avoidable suspensions. My choice would be the latter.
