Bigger Disappointment: Tapper vs Gregory

I think Gregory is the bigger disappointment by far but he probably also has more opportunity for redemption as he will probably be on the roster next year while Tapper may not make it to September.

With Awuzie and Williams the last two years I think you can at least have hope that trend is finished.
If Jaylon proves to be even slightly better than last year (which he most certainly will be), then you can count him too.

Really no question
One is a premier talent
One created his own problems
The other is a prospect who was never expected to be elite, and no player has any control over injuies

Tapper couldn't even secure the full time starter role on the Sooners. Ganjory was the superior pass rusher and not as likely to disappear as Tapper did.

Gregory.

Never had any expectations for Tapper.

Did not want Gregory due to his issues with Mary Jane but at least he had some incredible potential.

The Cowboys are the disappointment. They drafted both knowing there were problems. On the other hand, if they would have passed on Gregory, and he went through this with another team, but became a stud. The question would then be, " Why didn't the Cowboys take a chance on Gregory?"

No matter what team drafted him, he was going to smoke weed trust me. So he would have been in the same boat. I have a buddy who has been in NA and clean now for over 25 years.

Both players are seen by most Cowboys fans as very talented pass rushers that could help the team. However, both players have missed significant time on the field for different reasons of course. Some may label both of these players bust at this point. With that said my question to Cowboys fans is which do you consider the more disappointing player at this point and why?

My opinion is Gregory. Why? He was a higher draft pick than Tapper that would have easily been a first round pick if not for substance addiction. Gregory showed a lot on tape (college) that made you believe that he could have became a dominant pass rusher. Tapper on the other hand was a work out combine warrior that had only a few instances in college that he could be a good pass rusher on any level.

Yep I agree on Gregory. Much higher ceiling, taken higher in the draft as the best pass rusher that year. Showed his stuff in his first per-season, got me all excited then BAM!! Tapper? I don't think he'll ever be a big success in the NFL. Back issues, carries the sickle cell trait and always injured. I'm rooting for Gregory to get his **** straight. Rooting for Tapper also but Gregory has been a bigger disappointment because it's self-inflicted

A 4th round pick with long odds to be a significant contributor vs a player that did a free fall in the draft because teams were concerned about his off the field issues?

I'd say both players ended up exactly how they were expected to when coming out of college. Anyone disappointed with either had unrealistic expectations.

Gregory — hands down!

Jerry & Co took a chance on this guy and he
preceded to F’up with substance issues.

Entering his 4th season, RG has produced 1 sack in 14 games. That’s horrible for a 2nd-rounder — especially one who projected as a 1st-round talent.

Hear he’s cleaned up and has applied for reinstatement...we’ll see...

But Jaylon was part of the old template. Taking a risk on a player that would otherwise be long off the board without their particular issue.

Awuzie and Williams didn't bring any inherent risk with them. They were just good football players who slid through the cracks.

I would have to say Red Jason Garrett. He still as a coach has not learned how to make half time adjustments.

Gregory. He has stupid physical ability if he'll put the weed down and reach his potential.

Not really “disappointed” in either. I don’t think either of their issues are heir own fault, so it’s tough for me to be disappointed in them.

Tapper has always been a scrub. Never done anything in college at all. I never expected anything out of him. Gregory had all the tools and was a high pick. Gregory 100%.

HArd to feel disappointment in Gregory when you didn't expect anything. People got too caught up in his measurables.
Literally no reason for this post to be made. No reason at all.

The OP made it very simple lol. Gregory or Tapper......and he couldn't follow simple instructions lol.

Garrett has his flaws as a coach. Making in-game adjustments doesn’t seem to be one of his strong suits. The team was definitely caught off guard during the Chaz Green game against the Falcons and basically nothing was done during the game to change the course. There have been other times during his tenure when a rigid adherence to his system has overridden the common sense of making adjustments to meet the situation. The inability to win in 2015 when Tony Romo was lost was a poor combination of self-scouting and adjusting to new realities.

Additionally, the Cowboys have failed in the playoffs under Garrett. There is no doubt that Aaron Rodgers has a lot to do with that, as has one awful call by the referees on a Dez Bryant catch, but the fact remains - Garrett has been unable to advance the Cowboys to an NFC Championship game.

Going into 2018, Garrett still has many doubters despite what he’s accomplished. Much of the feeling is that his soft reset on the coaching staff resembles the beginnings of a make-or-break year for the coach. As a former Cowboy himself, Garrett enjoys a close relationship with Jerry Jones, and that is the main reason he was afforded patience in the first three seasons. Yet, this 2018 Cowboys team is the most Garrett-y it gets, after his overhaul of the position coaches and parting ways with Dez Bryant. If the most Garrett-y version of America’s Team can’t make the playoffs, at least, Jones may find it hard to keep him around any longer. Nevertheless, Garrett has made necessary changes this offseason and, if it pays off, will only prove that the Garrett way works. If not, well, Jones has never been known for putting up with what doesn’t work.

The Gregory pick sit this team back some. Ended up having to draft Taco. That pick could have been used on something else. But I never was okay with the ideal picking Gregory in the 2nd round.
