Most prognosticators have either Philly or the Nyg winning the east. I personally don't think either team will be a force in the NFC. Which team do you think is stronger and why?

In my view the Giants are still the team to beat. I think the O-line in NY is better and their ability to run ball gives them the edge. Defensively both units are good. I look forward to see Dallas play each and feel we have as good of a chance at winning the division as either NY or Philly

Sure ...every team is the team to beat. But how did you come to that deduction and what were the deciding factors involved in your decision?

1st off Giants were better than Dallas or Philly. My god Philly went 9-6-1 not exactly a ringing endorsement. I think the Giants are overall a better balanced team which is why I say they are the team to beat. I think Philly is clearly a contending team as well as Dallas but Giants as last years winner of the NFC East is still the team to knock off.

The Eagles are the class of the division this year in my opinion. They may have lost Dawkins, and to a lesser extent Johnson, but they have also covered their bases. People seem to forget that they went out and picked up Sean Jones, who at this point in his career I'd take over an aging Brian Dawkins over the long-term. If Sean Jones was a Cowboy right now instead of an Eagle people would be talking about him being a top-tier Safety in the league (which people were doing when he was rumored to be coming to Dallas).

Philadelphia also upgraded their OL (which didn't need any upgrading to begin with). Jason Peters vs. DeMarcus Ware is going to be a battle for the ages every single time the two line up against each other. I've watched every game of both players professional careers and I can honestly say that I don't know who will win those battles when the two face off. Both are men amongst boys. They also went out and picked up Stacey Andrews who, if he can keep his brother out of the nut house, will no doubt help the OL out even more. The Eagles might have the premiere OL in the league at this juncture.

They are also a threat for the first time since Owens left at WR. Not only do they have the speedy DeShaun Jackson, but now they've added Jeremy Maclin, who in my opinion was the best WR in the class. Not only that, but they added Ingram, a guy who, if healthy, has the potential to scare a lot of DC's into forced retirement.

Add all of that to the fact that for the first time they have an actual reliable backup to Westbrook in Shady McCoy, and you have quite the juggernaught on the offensive side of the ball. People taking the Eagles lightly this year are going to be very sad they did so, they have been the class of the division for the better part of the last decade and it appears that they will continue that tradition into 2009.

PH03 I would hope that no Cowboy fan would ever take the Eagles lightly.

No matter how bad they look.

They bring it against us regardless of the circumstances.

I agree. I think the Giants are still the team to beat but by no means do I take the Eagles lightly. Frankly I don't take any of the NFC East teams lightly including the skins. Right now it seems they are flying under the radar and I think it is a mistake to overlook them as well.

To me its no question Philly. They got better everywhere, although losing Jim Johnson will hurt. I think Philly will battle us for the division title. 12-4/11-5.

I'm picking NYG to finish 3rd at 9-7. They are going to struggle on offense, and while their defense is really good, I dont know that their defensive line can carry them an entire season.

I'd put the Eagles out front but only marginally and just talking paper teams.

The Cowboys have been and will continue to be their own biggest threat until they prove otherwise.

Yeah, the Eagles and Giants, too. Although I think the Giants will be steady this year. I think we will be as well. Does NY have a good enough offense? Can the Commanders back up that defense with any offense? Will they look like the early 00s Cowboys with ups and downs because the offense can't score enough to keep up with the defense? A worse NY than NY??? Will Campbell learn Zorn's offense and Portis stay healthy? Can the Eagles outscore the Cowboys? Can their defense look like a Jim Johnson defense? Who's backing up McNabb????

I think the East will be schizoid this year with ups and downs dictated by injuries more than any factor with the top three.

I agree that injuries among the NFC East teams will dictate who wins the East. I think this is a wideopen division and would not rule out the skins from being a contending team. Just like Philly I can't stand Washington but putting hatred behind me and looking at the skins yes I think the have the talent to be a factor. It should be an exciting season and I look forward to it

No argument the Giants are contenders, but while the Giants may have tweaked out as NFC-East winners, the Eagles were runner-up to the NFC-Championship game against Arizona. Now ...NFC Championship runner-ups and what the Giants did last year, means absolutely nothing when you realize that the Giant are not the same team they were in 2008.

Are the Giants better? Did the Eagles improve on both sides of the ball? Reading some of the posts from the Cwboys fans here at the Zone, it sounds like your team has replaced players with upgrades ...if that's true, perhap the Dallas Cowboys is the team to beat - but I just do not believe the Giants are the same team after losing two pro-bowl widereceivers.

I think the Eagles did catch fire in post season but over the course of 16 weeks I think the Balance of the Giants is why I give them the edge and the team to beat. Again no where have I said Philly could not win it as I have posted above I think it is a wideopen division but I still give the slight edge to NY because of their balance on offense as well as a quality defense.

I think the Eagles present the biggest problems for the reason that they still have a very explosive offense, that can score points in bunches (Having Westbrook and Jackson and now adding in Maclin who doesn't have to come right in and be a hero), so while their defense will struggle without Dawk and Johnson, their offense could win some shoot outs for them. I think the loss of Dawk will be a huge loss for them, heart and soul wise, and they'll probably stumble out of the gates because of it but will have that part figured out by mid year probably. Just in time to give us fits late in the year.

The Giants lost their DC, which will hurt, but more importantly they lost their top 2 WR's and they're basically going to be banking on a bunch of guys who couldn't get it done last year without Plax, and now they don't have Toomer either, or a couple rookies coming in and lighting the world on fire. Their offense is going to struggle MIGHTLY. Especially late in the year, when you really need to be able to grind the ball out with running.

Theyr'e going to see pretty much everyone put 8 in the box and dare them to have Eli try and beat them with a bunch of young, unproven, WR's. It's going to be very, very, very tough.

Defensively they'll probably start slower but by years end their defense will be the only thing keeping them in games.

Not unless they cut way down on the turnovers (2nd most in the league last year) and penalties (Cowboys offense led the league last year). If they can do that, then maybe. Until then, I doubt it.

Absolutely agree. We seem to beat ourselves FAR too often. If we can play smart and relatively mistake free and if the O line plays fairly well, I think we're the team to beat. It remains to be seen if the team can accomplish these three things.
