The 1998 loss to the Cardinals was basically the same thing, getting blown out at home by a fringe playoff team.

And I think you’re crazy if you believe this loss hurts you or me as much as Jerry Jones. We all get to go back to our jobs, families and other hobbies after this. The Cowboys are his job, his hobby and the thing his entire family is centered around. Hes in the last decade or so of his life and the ONLY thing he cares about anymore is one more ring before he dies.

We may not agree with decisions he makes but you’re kidding yourself if you believe you will lose more sleep than Jerry over this. I certainly won’t I know that.
Can't agree. If Jerry truly cared about getting one more ring, he'd fire himself as GM.

It's a shame that the man who sits atop the most valuable sports franchise in the world won't put his ego aside and let football people run the business. He's had the benefit of will Maclay for as long as he has because Will had young children in school, that's all coming to an end soon.

Jerry has to surround himself with people that won't stand up to him. He not only has to be the face of the franchise, he has to give interviews, sign autographs, have his own radio show, give injury updates, make personnel decisions, be allowed in the locker room after games. That sounds like a man who is obsessed with being the center of attention, rather than the owner of a team seeking to win a championship.

He's making money, the players are making money, and the fans are suffering as opportunities are squandered, just a sad state of affairs at the hands of a fool

The problem with the Cowboys is its core, not the outer layers.

Just replacing head coaches, coordinators, quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, etc. will not solve the core problem.

Even just replacing the Jerry-the-GM will not solve it, though it would definitely help.

This team needs to be rebuilt from its core with a new mindset and new philosophy.

The team needs a coach who will demand order and perfection from the players.

It needs players who care more about winning Super Bowls than they do podcasts, social media and product promotion.

Most importantly, it needs players that care little about their own stats and care everything about winning Super Bowls.

This team needs a coach who is smart enough to trade star players who cannot help this team win a Super Bowl right now for draft picks that can be turned into the star players who can help the Cowboys compete for multiple Super Bowls in the coming years.

But will it result in the kind of changes we all know are needed? No. He’s not bothered enough to do that.
Is it he’s not bothered enough by it, or he just doesn’t know how?

Too many on this board mistake incompetence for indifference. And it matters because that mistake takes a dislike over personnel decisions to a visceral hatred of another human.

I don’t like a lot of what Jerry has done these last 30 years. There are many on this board who would, very literally, smother him in his sleep if they had the opportunity. I don’t believe that is hyperbole. And it’s because they believe all he cares about is money and spends his days laughing at the fans who care about the product on the field than he does.

Seriously? Super bowl contenders don't have "BAD DAYS" against 9-8 teams at home in the playoffs. If that's the way the players feel, then it's time to make some changes.
A lot of "bad day" syndrome and hanging of heads.

Okay.

"That's the way they wanna play it, boys and girls. Yea! YEA! WE HAD A BAD DAY! COME VISIT MY HOUSE AND SEE HOW I LIVE FOR ONE DAY! It's all good at Mr. Robinson's house...boys and girls. Or, is it?"

Biggest embarrassment in Cowboy's history, and it won't matter enough to fans who will still spend hundreds, and even thousands of dollars on game tickets, airline tickets, jerseys, parking, food, etc. The same ones will be there in the preseason, regular season, and playoffs. The same ones will still be spending hundreds of dollars on some package to watch on tv.

Biggest embarrassment in Cowboy's history, and it won't matter enough to Dak especially, and all the other players. Win or lose embarrassingly, get paid.

Biggest embarrassment in Cowboy's history, and it won't matter enough to many fans as they will worship the ground these players walk on and seek their autographs.
I’ve always said fans should do a walk out to embarrass JJ….. but tonight may actually be equal to that. To get the 2 seed and get embarrassed like that. It has to get to JJ

Both.

Jerry only cares about himself and how things affect him. He's indifferent about being incompetent.

This is absolute common sense. And it is sadly uncommon in the inner sanctum at the Star. Agree 100%. There is a sickness in this culture that spans multiple generations of players and coaches.

Leaving this organization intact at the top is Like trying to build a building on a sand foundation. It will never work.

100%...

Need a clean canvas, but as long as Jerry is around, it isn't happening and we are just in a sick cycle carousel.

Jerry hasn’t been the primary, or even secondary, personnel decision maker for a decade. Will McClay is the GM when it comes to the draft in all but name and Stephen makes the vast majority of the final calls on extensions and FA signings. I don’t love that set up but it’s just wrong to claim things would be substantially different since 2013 if Jerry dropped the GM label.

The best thing he could do would be to give McClay de facto GM authority over all personnel decisions and relegate Stephen to keeping the financial records in line.

The problem is this doesn’t mean anything. It’s a bunch of hollow slogans and team building-isms. It lacks any specifics with respect to “how”. And most notably, it ignores that every “core problem” that supposedly plagues the Cowboys plagues ALL teams including those that win titles.

I’m old enough to have watched all 67 Cowboys playoff games. All 36 wins and all 31 losses. That was the most embarrassing loss in Cowboys history. To be trucked at home by a 9-8 #7 seed is beyond inexcusable. It’s actually what this organization has become: A lazy embarrassment when it matters most.

As I watched that colossal failure tonight unfold into a 27-0 deficit with 2:00 left in the first half, I could not help but think that there is no other team in the entire playoffs who would have stunk it up that bad at home with everything in front of them. To lay an egg of that proportion in front of millions is not only disgusting, it is gutless.

But my fellow Cowboys fans, I can guarantee you one thing: It won’t change things much at the Star. Nope. If you think Jerry Jones is as mad as we fans are or is angry enough to make major changes throughout this organization, don't get your hopes up. I will predict it right now- there will be no Bill Belechick or Jim Harbaugh “to the rescue”. Because this ship sinks every year regardless of the HC.

Since our last SB, we’ve had 6 different HCs, and 8 different OCs and DCs. And one GM who won’t change. Promise you. He will be smiling this July at his putrid “State of the Cowboys” presser in “Ox-nerd” selling sand to all us fans in this 28 year desert. And most Cowboys fans will buy it again. Oh and expect Mike McCarthy to be seated with JJ and “Giggles” next July. Because JJ likes being comfortable more than he likes to be hungry.
Good post. I'm an old timer too. Been fortunate enough to see most of the playoff games and all 8 SB appearances. Those were great times with great teams and really only two great coaches.....Landry and Johnson. Parcells had some power, but Jerry called the shots. But he owns the team, and us long time fans can't do anything about it. And that sucks.
