Now now, Coldplay is certainly more talented than a majority of mainstream artists.

coldplay is the reason mainstream artists suck. they were the trailblaziers for sucky bands

I like the Black Keys, too.

Muse has to be considered.

Yeah, I've always liked their stuff.

I don't know what you'd call their style exactly - intellectual metal?

I think of it as kind of a mix between alternative and progressive.

Mine screen name is derived from a Tool song. They're sort of in a genre by themselves. Others have tried and failed to develop a sound like them. Aenema is still one of the best albums of all time in my opinion.

Yes, I have that one on my shelf. I think I'll pop it in my car tomorrow on my way to work as it has been awhile since I spun it.

Tool, A Perfect Circle and you might want to check out Puscifer. I also liked Gravity Kills, Nine Inch Nails and Deftones.

I like them as well and you are right that they have their own sound. In some ways they remind me of pink floyd because they are so different from other stuff. No I don't mean they sound like pink floyd for those thinking that is what I am saying...just that they have their own sound and it is different from other stuff.

I liken it more to Depression Metal. :laugh2: Even when they play fast it sounds slow.

Tools is awesome though, there always in my playlists.

If you listen to Metallica's Death Magnetic, it has a new sound. Does that means they are an old band that is now modern?

While most of their new stuff I'm not big into, there are about 3-4 songs off Death Magnetic that are very good. ...and of course we all know Metallica is king of all rock / metal bands. Even if they did start to tank a bit after Black. :)

Well, I meant other bands that don't include members of Tool (or MJK in particular). His voice is a large part of what makes them so distinct.

Ever heard of Earshot? Listen to this one:

Yup. I like them and they've come the closest to Tool's sound I think. But it's just not quite there.
