You want to judge our off-season by giving credit for guys who we can't be sure will contribute?

Well if we are gonna judge our rookies as additions, who we can't be sure can contribute. What's different then the 2 draft picks from last year who weren't on the 53? Especially a guy like Jaylon Smith, who before injury, was projected by many to be the #1 pick.

They also drafted a player (Rasul Douglas) who doesn't fit their scheme.
Looks like they just signed L Blount the former Patriot, I assume most of you feel like me and think "meh". I am more concerned about how the Giants Dline will play without Hankins clogging up the middle, JPP back at full speed, along with the evolution of their defensive backs, Jenkins, Apple, Collins, DRC. Our WR's were tested against the Giants and I think everyone would agree improvement is drastically needed. Noah Brown, and Ryan Switzer if they are viable, is the first step to combat their strength. Asking and projecting in May is always a crap shoot.

When media types talk about Dallas losing players on their OL... they never talk about Collins coming back. He more than equals one of Free or Leary.

Bell and Cooper should be fine to fight it out for the LG spot. Bell in particular is a solid guard, although his play at OT leaves a bit to be desired.

Straight up fear mongering by the media.

I agree that we could have done a better job handling the Romo situation. I don't really take these grades seriously since none of the players have even played in a pre-season game, let alone a handful of regular season games.

And no mention adding last year's draftees Jaylon Smith and Charles Tapper to this years team. Having them along with this years draft class. Smith should be ready to go for camp and Tapper will be a big help with his speed. Mickey said on Talkin Cowboys Tapper was in the running for a starting DE spot before he got injured. I give the Cowboys offseason an A-. The A+ would have been if we got something for Tony.

I can see why he didn't factor Smith and Tapper in the grade. We're hoping both are able to go and play at a high level, but we're not certain.

I don't know how Romo's situation could have been handled better. It was the No. 1 off-season story. The Cowboys, Romo, Jerry, Stephen, et.al., were hounded on what would happen to Romo. Aside from Jerry and Co. keeping their collective mouths shut, I think everyone knew the fate of Romo, which is why neither Arizona, Denver or Houston offered up anything for him.

I understand the reasoning as well. But the bolded portion can easily be said about the rookies as well. You can say that about all the rookies on all the teams.

To call the analysis flawed is a massive understatement. It is essentially useless. I'm sure even the writer knows this. But he's been asked to write this by his superiors and he's done what he's been told.

To criticize how Romo was handled this past offseason was a huge stretch. Especially since Jerry kept Romo informed of how things were going and Romo seems to have been onside with all of it.

Not mentioning Jaylon pretty much makes his whole article incomplete. Tapper as well. He certainly over rates the loss of Free who by the end of last season was a horrific turnstyle as regards pass blocking. Anyone trying to disagree with that needs to be reminded that Free was the THIRD WORST TACKLE IN THE NFL as regards SACKS and PRESSURES last year.

Last year his play fell off significantly which is why he retired I imagine. But he wasn't the third worst tackle in the league. We only gave up 28 sacks last year.

Both Douglas and Sidney Jones are big enough to jam well and press. Both can perform more like aggressive press bail corners if that is what Schwartz is going to do as opposed to playing purely press-man. He also does have his defense playing a lot of Cover 2. If he can avoid blitzing and generate a rush from four down lineman, he can run practically any coverage he wants.

Gee, could the difference be the relative health of the players? We've got two guys with significant injuries that they may not be able to come back from

All teams switch up there coverages. The eagles tho play more press than any team in the league. They stay leaving there corners on an island. Malcolm Jenkins said it himself. Big reason why there corners have gotten burnt so much. Jalen mills is better suited for a zone coverage team also. Doubt Sidney Jones plays this year would be stupid.

Sounds about right. The club will miss both Leary and Free. The Cowboys are in good shape. May have a slow start but should finish strong.
I think Collins can do as well as Free but Leary will definitely be missed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
