Jason Witten is literally the best tight end of all time.

Don't give me Gates and Gonzalez. They were just big receivers who couldn't block me.

He's the best ever.

I think Gronk will probably surpass all of those guys by the time he's done. Playing with Brady doesn't hurt, but Gronk will still be going after Brady retires so we'll see how he does then.

He's missed too much time to injury. He gets hurt a lot. Not built as sturdy as Witten, and doesn't take care of himself the same during the offseason. He's a party hound.

Well, there you go. That tells you exactly what the Pats are going to do. Belichick does this a lot. He will lay it on thick for certain players and that usually means that the Pats are going to try and take it away from you.

Belichick 101.

Most of his time missed was due to a forearm injury, which isn't anything career threatening at all. He's by far and away the fastest TE to hit 60 TDs. Witten doesn't even have 60, he's at 59. Not trying to bash Witten or anything, he's top 3 all-time but Gronk is just a step above really any other TE. Again, we'll see what happens once Brady retires.

Nonsense........
Brady as well as their scheme and emphasis on horizontal routes makes players look better than they actually are. For instance Brandon LaFell had career highs his first year with Brady, and while Edelman is good he is nowhere near to the top tier of WR's, he makes his money on short crossing routes often matched up against slower linebackers.

Witten has caught more than 600 more passes than Gronkowkski, and he's a much better blocker than him. Gronk will go downhill fast with that doughy party body of his. Witten has had the self discipline to do what's necessary to fight age. Gronk won't.

No way Gronk plays 10 years in the league. Have to laugh at anyone that thinks he has more than a few years before his body gives out.

I'm not so sure. Gronk is a serious workout warrior in the offseason. Basically his offseason amounts to partying and working out. He said he wants to be a fitness instructor when he retires.

He says he doesn't drink or do drugs. Not so sure about the drinking part. His body may fall apart, but it won't be because his body is doughy. His injuries so far have been to his wrist and forearm, not his legs. That's where injuries cause most careers to be shortened. He's going to be a matchup nightmare for a long time.

All that being said, Witten is a slam dunk first ballot Hall of Famer.

Belichick nails it.

Same guy who said he has no time to discuss football with any Cowboy fan who doesn't think Romo is outstanding...the famous "Cowboy fan football knowledge filter". lol

awesomeness.

Can you point me in the direction of where he said he didn't drink? I've seen him bro down on the dance floor locked out of his mind.

Gronk had 308 receptions in his first 5 years in the league (2010-2014), Witten had 348. Gronk had 4,379 yards while Witten had 3,983 yards. I won't even bring up TDs because it's not close. Those stats are with Gronk being injured for the better part of 2012 and 2013. Now, Gronk could continue to get inured, and that would definitely change things of course, but even if he stays relatively healthy he'll beat Witten and probably Gonzalez in most receiving stats. Witten is a top 3 all-time TE and going in the HOF. I'm just saying Gronk could be the GOAT by the time his career is done.

Now, if Witten had played with Brady at any point in his career things would probably be different

It's in his book. As I said earlier, I have serious doubts on that claim. But he said it.

And the keynote about Witten is that he's done this year after year after year. Similar guys like Bavaro, Casper, Crumpler, etc, that can catch and block are usually not long for the NFL world.

Longevity and availability are the hardest things to do in football.

And once again I will say it: I have serious doubts about that claim. It is in his book. I read an exerpt of it when it was released this past offseason. Feel free to believe or not to believe it. I'm just the messenger.
