Saw most every game in one form or another. I've heard other players make fun of his blocking, including Daryl Johnston. He could handle a blitzing linebacker here and there, but a defensive end ate him alive. And he couldn't do anything in the running game as a blocker at all.
Not Witten. He can do it all in the run game.
Never said he was a Witten like blocker.
In pass pro he was very good.
KC would move him out wide or in the slot like a WR and he would dominate safeties and corners in the run game. That's why KC was so great at running the ball despite not having a real deep threat. They had a great O-Line, but if you don't have a TE to block, you're limited in what you can do. But when you can line up in the slot or out wide and dominate DB's like Gonzalez did, it makes it hard for defenses to stop.
It's the en vogue thing to say whenever a TE is a good receiver of '
he can't block!' They said the same thing about Dallas Clark and it couldn't have been further from the truth.
