Lot of people like this guy. It really does look like we're highly interested in a combo OG/OT, and likely early. The idea is to add depth/competition to start at OG this year, and give us a long-term RT option, so our hand isn't forced with Free after 2014. Really smart plan if you ask me. Sign me up.

I thought they were interested in an OC/OG but they could be looking for a replacement for Weems and Parnell with an OG/OT.

The good thing is that looking at the other teams that have had him in speaks well of his potential. Unlike Arkin who no one cared about except us.

I'm not sold on the 2nd round for this player. North Dakota State? Combine says he is 6'4.7" by the way.

arkin just needs more time to develop

he will be a great OL one day

our starting OL could have been arkin/costa/killer kowalski, we just didnt give it enough time

T Fred is a "progress stopper"

100% with you here. I do think teams could look at him as a potential LT. He has that kind of athletic ability. But he's certainly capable at RT or ZBS OG (as you mentioned) as a fallback. Here, I'd say he'd be the same thing a number of other guys would be (Martin, Sua-Filo, Bitonio, Kouandjio, *Brandon Thomas)... really quality at OG/OT and competing for a starting OG spot in 2014, followed by taking over RT in 2015.

The layers are starting to unfold with these OL. Based on my evaluation of the players, here are the guys I'd be happy about taking in these rounds:

R1: None
R2: Moses, Sua-Filo
R3: Bitonio, Turner, Yankey, Jackson
R4: Thomas
I would add Trai Turner and Dozier in the 4th or 3rd.

He moves extremely well and looks like a great fit for our OL

Good stuff, I'll watch Dozier and Trai Turner tonight. You fellas see that Callahan was running the LSU OL drills and paying some special attention to Trai Turner? Every year you can kind of key in on a few guys that just feel like targets, whether it be increased attention through meetings, visits, workouts, etc. Both Turners have that feel this year to me. What I take away from it is not just interest in those individuals, but the position group as well. OG/OT early.

Just watched both Dozier and Trai Turner. I like Turner much better. His athleticism for the position is very impressive. Not at that Jonathan Cooper level, but really good. And he's not powerless either... he packs a punch, creates a jolt when engaging a defender, and truly looks like he loves to hit (similar to Billy Turner). I'd gladly take either of the Turner boys in the 3rd, although I'd prefer Billy, since he's got the position flex for RT. Dozier I couldn't justify a 3rd for, because when you combine the low level of competition with the lack of movement skills, I'm sure there will be others there I prefer.

"Position flex" is huge for us. If Weems or Parnell work out, we could use the drafted guy at RG instead of RT in 2015 and Weems/Parnell at RT. If Weems/Parnell don't show enough, then the drafted guy can play RT in 2015. And let Free go.

I don't see a lack of movement skills for Dozier. He's not an NFL LT, but his quickness looks good as a Guard. He's not as quick as either of the Turners but he moves better than Cyril Richardson or Gabe Jackson, IMO.

Oh, completely agree. I'll rephrase it: I can't justify a 3rd on a guy that has only average (though not bad) athleticism for the position when you consider how deep this draft is, and his level of competition. He's not a bad prospect at all. I just prefer both Turners.

Gabe Jackson I'm not sure what to make of. He seems to me like a better Leary, but despite our commitment to Leary, the staff seems to be going away from the mauler types in favor of guys who can move in the ZBS. But then we saw how awesome Warford was last year, and he and Jackson stack up similarly. So I'm conflicted on him. His projection seems to be all over the place... from very late R1 to R3.

Me either. Some Scouts are comparing his agility skills to Cooper. That kinda threw me as well.

OK, if you're basing it on game footage and not combine/Pro-Day data.

I don't think he better than Leary. Leary has good quickness and was terrific by the end of last season. I had him graded with a near perfect game towards the end of the season. He was actually better than Fred in some games.
