All the rumors today about trading for Njoku are silly. I wouldn't give up assets for a receiving TE when we already have our receiving TE. Compiled some of Jarwins 10+yard catches. Just goes to show how ridiculously underutilized he was in favor or JG's friend Jason Witten.

Initially i thought about the Jarwin re-signing as a commitment too,.
and yet there are teams with multiple TE threats.
But maybe their thought process is among what several teams with multiple TE threats:
- Eagles have both Zach Ertz and Dallas Goebert
- Vikes have both Kyle Rudolph and Irv Smith Jr.
- the Bucs have Gronk, Cameron Brate and OJ Howard

There's an "unknown source" claiming that the Browns want a 1st round pick for Njoku. If it's true, it's unlikely a team will bite. (BTB)

Blake Jarwin signed a four year, $22 million contract with the Cowboy on March 16, 2020. Jarwin received $9.25 million in guarantees, $6.25 million of which is fully guaranteed at signing. The full guarantee consists of a $4 million signing bonus and Jarwin's 2020 base salary. If Jarwin is on the roster on the 5th day of the 2021 league year his 2021 base salary will be guaranteed. There are an additional $2.25 million in contract escalators.

This is year 3 for Dalton Schultz too. Dalton wasn't a bad prospect, kind of guy who might have been able to contribute after a couple years, especially moving on from the JG and Witten era.

I don't think the Cowboys are looking for a TE.

Obviously if a player a any position somehow becomes available for a really good deal they'll consider it, but I don't see them giving up any premium assets for a TE at this point in time.

Of TE's that have been metioned this offseason, Howard is the only one that really makes sense. He is a inline TE as both a blocker and pass catcher. He fits well with Jarwin and gives you a very strong TE group when healthy. The catch with him is that he has been so injury prone and they are likely to want more than he is worth. I wouldnt give up more than a 6th rounder for him

Njoku has played inline in Cleveland, but not well. He is a move TE that they tried to convert into an inline TE and it hasnt really worked.

From a recieving POV, I think Jarwin should be able to play inline or in the slot well

For those of us who would still like to acquire a TE, it appears we already have one that the Cowboys have made a generous commitment to. Blake Jarwin has obviously been singled out as the recipient of their TE quest, at least, for the time being. There are some others in house with enough upside to prove themselves worthy of further consideration in the near future. Let's celebrate that fact and hope for another promising candidate to step up. There are newcomers who are already available, for those of us who haven't noticed. If by chance you have, keep smiling -- we'll be fine!

Probably will be looked back upon as one of the best preemptive signings from the FO when compared to recent contracts.

The Cowboys also have Cooper, Gallup, Lamb, Elliott and Pollard, and there are only so many balls to go around. Do we really want to use more resources on players to fight over the leftover table scraps?

There is near zero chance that he gets cut, IMO.

I think Kellen Moore would have preferred to make Jarwin the starter last season, but we all knew that Garrett would play Witten for too many snaps (75%). I'm certain it was all Garrett could do to restrain himself from playing Witten 100% of the snaps.

And it doomed Garrett. I'm not even sure why he had so much unconditional loyalty to Witten. It's not like he helped him win here.

There’s some plays in there Jarwin makes that Witten couldn’t due to lack of athleticism.

I’ve never understood the dislike by Jarwin by some. If he was a 5th/6th round pick people would be clamoring for him. Instead, he was a rookie free agent so people crap on him.

And then there’s probably 6-7 others that Jarwin would have to separate himself from this coming year. If he’s top 12 we should all be happy...and that’s perfectly fine given the other weapons we have on offense, not a knock on Jarwin at all. I’m fine with Jarwin...it’s the #2 TE spot that worries me. Especially if Jarwin were to get hurt.

Jarwin would have to seriously disappoint this year for us to consider cutting him next year. Next year, 3.5 mil salary, 750k in game day bonuses. If he just plays like last year, over more snaps, he's more than worth it.

And Jarwin will be the 5th threat on the field. He'll get the least attention from defenses. His ypt was already 8.9 last year. Should go even higher. On a ypt basis, he's going to look great. He'd have to try to fail to get cut.

It will be interesting to see how they balance snaps. I would assume McCarthy will want to have three receivers on the field on almost every down because of the quality there. (You don't take Lamb off the field for a second tight end or fullback.) So Jarwin's playing time will likely depend on how much we use the fullback or even a two-backfield look with Elliott and Pollard, with Pollard or even Elliott able to split out wide to essentially give us a four-receiver look.

It's even possible that Blake Bell could end up cutting into his snaps if we want to put in more of a blocking tight end with our three-receiver set. I can't envision us using two-tight end sets except in short yardage.

I believe most fans what more of a traditional, balanced TE, one who is good in both the run and the pass. Problem is, the league is becoming more of a passing league. The TE position has evolved into more of a chess piece to exploit mismatches in the passing game than being a strong in-line blocker for a team's rushing attack. Just look around the league, not many well balanced TE's, you can say that also on the College Level. Jarwin is more of a modern day TE, a big WR playing the TE position. With all the offensive talent the Cowboy Offense has, Jarwin should see favorable match-ups all season long.

Jarwin is much more of a modern TE but blocking isn’t always about moving a guy out so much as just walking him off
Just impede his angle to the play can be effective and I think jarwin has improved his blocking enough
I think we see more finesse and less brute strength from our blockers this year
More creativity, less predictable
It’s about creating holes and if you give the D more things to think about it slows their reaction and then just a slight block can prevent a guy from filing that hole

I saw that, and I didn't remember it either.

Man, if he was worth that much, then why didn't he get more snaps last season? Are the Witten screamers right that Witten got most of the snaps due strictly to coach's bias? Sick.

Man, I've been trying to convince myself that this wasn't true. If it is true, we should quickly find out from Jarwin's play. And that makes Garrett even more of a really dummm petty little B.

They'll want to avoid playing the top WRs for 100% of the snaps. Both Gallup and Cooper have had injury issues.

In 2018 for the 2nd half (after Swaim went to IR) they generally played Jarwin on passing downs and Schultz on running downs.

Back then Jarwin's blocking was well below average. In 2019 Jarwin's blocking was better but I doubt that it will ever be a plus attribute for him.

In 2019 the Cowboys running game was at times negatively impacted by the fact that Witten and Jarwin played almost all of the snaps at TE.

Witten's blocking had declined significantly from his peak.

Normally the 2nd TE is a blocking TE but with Witten and Jarwin neither fit that role.

Even at his peak, Witten was a good blocker relative to other starting TEs but not relative to most dedicated blocking TEs.

I think that "packages" will be a focus for Kellen Moore where he tries to utilize the unique abilities of some non-starter type players. That is most likely Pollard.

KM ran some plays last season with both Pollard and Zeke on the field together. Pollard has the gadget play type ability but also has legit RB and WR abilities.

Also, in training camp KM really worked on the wheel route that turned into a go route by FB Olawale. Olawale has 4.5 speed and is a good match-up in the passing game vs LBs.

Unfortunately, we've seen many, many times that posters here give no care about contract details and the salary cap implications and... just about everything that goes deeper than an inch of water.

The reality is, we posters have no control over contracts/salaries.

Worrying about that which you cannot control is pointless.
