Worrying about that which you cannot control is pointless.

But talking about signing or trading for players without regard for contracts is also pointless. Contracts have to be factored into those discussions to know if there is even any reasonable basis for the discussion

Well just talking about signing every good player without regard for salary or cap implications certainly isn’t reasonable. Reasonable discussion has to at least recognize there are limits.

Yeah, you know...I'm WAY more worried about who we have on our team to cover other teams' version of Jarwin than I am about Jarwin himself.

Obviously the new staff was consulted and signed off.

TE is far from the biggest issue on this team, and the fact that a full evaluation couldnt be done before his payday came up was yet another mistake of the last staff.

I could build a skyscraper out of those.

Are you perceiving a conflict on this? If I repeated myself it’s because I was confused at the suggestion contracts don’t have a place in discussions on player acquisitions. Is that even a question?

Few TE are good at both
Jarwin is much more of a modern TE but blocking isn’t always about moving a guy out so much as just walking him off
Just impede his angle to the play can be effective and I think jarwin has improved his blocking enough
I think we see more finesse and less brute strength from our blockers this year
More creativity, less predictable
It’s about creating holes and if you give the D more things to think about it slows their reaction and then just a slight block can prevent a guy from filing that hole

Yeah, in his (TE Coach) interview he emphasized blocking and doing everything well, so maybe Wells can teach Jarwin how to be a decent blocker.

It will be interesting to see how they balance snaps. I would assume McCarthy will want to have three receivers on the field on almost every down because of the quality there. (You don't take Lamb off the field for a second tight end or fullback.) So Jarwin's playing time will likely depend on how much we use the fullback or even a two-backfield look with Elliott and Pollard, with Pollard or even Elliott able to split out wide to essentially give us a four-receiver look.

It's even possible that Blake Bell could end up cutting into his snaps if we want to put in more of a blocking tight end with our three-receiver set. I can't envision us using two-tight end sets except in short yardage.

That's where I am too. Getting the best players on the field means going 3 WR as our base. Just too dumb not to have Lamb out there.

That's Zeke +3, leaving one spot. I'd probably rather have that spot go to Pollard than Jarwin between the 20s. Can't imagine how it could make sense to take Lamb off the field for a 2nd TE.

If we go Jumbo, I hope it's with olinemen who we teach to run a few 3 yard routes. We've got oline depth but little TE depth. Get our best guys on the field.

Jarwin can't be covered by man coverage, neither can Cooper. So that means more zone and more running room for Zeke. Dak is going to kill defenses with play action on zone coverage also.

All the rumors today about trading for Njoku are silly. I wouldn't give up assets for a receiving TE when we already have our receiving TE. Compiled some of Jarwins 10+yard catches. Just goes to show how ridiculously underutilized he was in favor or JG's friend Jason Witten.

Nice hands. Has the Witten ability to get open. No Jay Novacek, but a suitable replacement hybrid of the two.

I’m not too worried about Jarwin but I am about our depth. The tightend position regardless of team is usually riddled with injuries.

Frankly i think Jarwin is H-back more than he is a TE.
He's more of a buffed up big WR than he is an pile moving TE.

With Garrett era, maybe he was expected to be Geoff Swaim " combo " blocker as with Witten, Hanna, Swaim, and selective others, Garrett expected his TEs to be dual receive/in-line blockers, such that
he requires them to occasionally pass block DEs in line,.. and that's when i've seen Blake get blown up and
air-lifted up into the air.

That's why i think the MM era will have to limit and scheme his keys and blocking assignments to what he
can better handle physically. Now he will have to be an acceptable " position-shield blockers but It's his catching ability and movement skills that is gonna be his strengths and the part of his game that is gonna help this team the most.

They'll want to avoid playing the top WRs for 100% of the snaps. Both Gallup and Cooper have had injury issues.

I agree that they won't play 100 percent of the snaps, but I think we'll see all three out there for the vast majority of them.

As constructed the front office has decided to allocate elite, top three money at QB, RB, WR and G. Their best bet to land such a player is through the draft process. The current top three TE's were not first round selections (Kelce, Ertz, Kittle).

We have no idea how Jarwin will produce with starter reps. We do know he offers far more better run after the catch skills then last year's version of Jason Witten.

We also have three inter-changeable WR's, each could play in the slot and become very difficult match-ups, especially Cooper. Playing three wr sets, should also open up the team's rushing attack.

We aren't sure how much action the TE position will be apart of MM's WC offense.

What if Jarwin gets injured? Are we taking all 12 personnel out of our playbook and just blocking with our TE?
