Blaming Kiffin makes no sense

What do you expect when the Head Coach doesn't seem to think there is any value to the middle of the field?

When the middle is manned in coverage by a bunch of scrub safeties and LBs outside of Lee, then this is exactly what you get.

"Regardless of injuries"

LOL. Like missing 7 starters on that side of the ball is irrelevant. Yeah, Kiffin's dealing with that AND implementing a brand new system.

I bet Rob Ryan would've done great things with our D even if he had to deal with a crazy amount of injuries! Oh wait.

I am not saying that injuries do not have an impact but this D is on pace for being the worst defense in the history of the NFL. That is bad. real bad.

What team is doing better on defense that fields a worse d line than Dallas? Please tell me what Kiffin can do. Make Hayden into Sapp? Turn Ware back to 2010 Ware? Make Selvie get more than two good plays per game? Cry baby *** fans. People think Rob is good now. I hope Kiffin goes to Washington next year to see the backtracking on him as well.

I am not saying Ryan is all that either. I am saying that this team should not be historically as bad as we are seeing. This D is horrible - that is being nice. Players lack fundamentals - poor tackling angles, poor ball skills, poor situational awareness, etc...

Since we are talking about fairness and getting free passes...........

Wade was fired for his beat down, so why is Opie not getting the same treatment?

Why the double standard?

What was our record when Wade was fired?

What's our record now?

No defensive coordinator in the history of football could stop the Saints offense without SEVEN projected starters on the field. Get real.

Sometimes in football, a crazy rash of injuries make it virtually impossible to succeed no matter how good the coaching. This is one of those times.

It's hilarious how some people are crying about the Rob Ryan firing now.

Remember how bad his D was last year after the absurd rash of injuries? Now that Kiffin's dealing with the same thing (if not worse), we want HIM gone? Even though you regret not giving Rob the same leeway?

Then there's the reality that Kiffin's trying to implement a new scheme, on top of all the injuries. Those aren't excuses, those are facts.

Sorry, you can't have it both ways. Either Rob AND Kiffin should get free passes for having to deal with an ungodly number of injuries, or neither of them should get the pass. Don't be inconsistent now just because you're emotional.

Now Kiffin will probably be gone after this year and many of you will be cheering when it happens. Just remember how you were also cheering last year when Rob got the axe. Funny how his D is doing great now in New Orleans since he's starting players who were actually projected to be starting.

I don't know what the answers are as I don't know if anything can be done about our horrific luck recently with defensive injuries. Some have suggested that the training staff is to blame and maybe there's something to that... or maybe there's nothing to that since none of us know nearly enough about our training regimen compared to that of other teams.

Bye week couldn't have come at a better time. The good news is we're still in 1st place (thanks to tiebreakers) and we have a chance to get Lee, Durant, Claiborne and Wilcox back before the end of the year. Then we'll see if Kiffin's unit can step up.

The defense under Kiffen was the worst in the NFL before last night, they have been the worst all year, and haven't been missing 7 starters all year.

Kiffin was a colossal blunder of a hire:
1. 4 years removed from Pro Football
2. 73 frikking years old. How many guys that age can work 80+ hour work weeks and stay vigorous? (A requirement in the NFL)
3. Recent results in NCAA were positively dreadful, despite a defensive stocked w/bluechip recruits
4. The Cover Two is a dino defense
5. We lacked the personnel to run the defense
6. By the time we might have transitioned into the personnel...Kiffin would have lost all his teeth
7. There was no way Kiffin could follow a beloved charismatic genius like Rob Ryan. Players miss playing for Rob.

This whole hiring was stooopid.

Yes RR is a defensive genius. His exotic schemes utterly befuddled the Cowboys last night.

Is that because our defensive coaches who have mile-long track records of success at this level forgot how to coach? Is their system now obsolete in today's NFL, even though other teams with much healthier rosters are having success playing similar systems?

Or is it a byproduct of dealing with a ton of injuries which have completely depleted our on-field talent WHILE ALSO implementing their system to guys in their 1st season playing in it?

Hmmm, I wonder which is more likely.

Of course, the correct answer isn't always the fun one. And it's really a drag when the correct answer keeps us from playing The Blame Game.

For the record, I thought the firing of Rob Ryan was a horrendous mistake from day-1. I didn't understand it. He was the ONLY guy on our coaching staff that brought any measure of fire to the team, a necessary contrast to Garrett's icy demeanor. I thought we needed Ryan and believed he did a more than admirable job of fielding a competitive defense in the face of an onslaught of injuries. I was genuinely excited to see year-three of his 3-4 and lamented it the moment I heard he was released.
Having said that, Kiffin absolutely has to go.

Why?

His defense has been bad all season, even when it was missing only Ratliff and Spencer. I've noticed it from game-1, were if not for 6 turnovers from the Giants his defense would have cost us the game. We haven't been able to cover tight ends or backs in the middle of the field ALL. YEAR. LONG. Indeed, it's gotten worse with the injuries. But it's never been good. Kiffin is the reason we lost against the Broncos. Are you honestly telling me he couldn't make an adjustment to take away one of those underneath dinks to the backs Peyton Manning ate us alive with all day long? He's been beyond terrible. Record-settingly bad.

It's sad that we fired Rob, as last night's game illustrated. He's a helluva D-Coordinator who did an admirable job fielding the likes of Brady Poppinga at MLB last year.

Kiffin, unfortunately, has got nothin'...
