The same guys will complain we have a rookie left tackle but will suggest starting a rookie corner…smh.
I started this thread and I am certainly not going to complain about Tyler Smith starting at left tackle. I'm not going to complain about anything. I'm probably the most excited fan on here about where we are today.

i agree. I wouldn’t be upset if we cut Joseph to keep Bland and Wright.

Absolutely right . For all the dumb penalties Wright is racking up I see him out there trying . And he had a pick . Joseph is either dinged up or getting tossed from games . Give me Bland and Wright as depth .

Joseph is a classic example of a “ reach need pick “. Denver took Surtain and Carolina took the other CB Dallas was interested in Horn , so round 2 it was who’s the highest CB left on the board instead of who’s the best player left on the board .

Bland almost reminds me of scandrick. He would never turn his head around in coverage. He is ok jumping routes and is around the ball. Let’s see how he does against real starters. Preseason is over. You got to make plays now.

Scandrick was vastly over rated. Hoping Bland brings more to the table the more he plays .

He has made a very good start. The long play he was burned on all he had to do was turn his head or anticipate and raise his arms. He can be coached to do that. He will watch that play over and over I hope. He will for sure see it in the team film study..

I think he is going to be a good player.

I don’t think he is better than Lewis right now.

so no need to hurry him in there.

I get it, we never win preseason games and we’ve had some nice performances with some young guys standing out.

But we need to stop these threads where we want to start mid to late round rookies over proven vets. Jourdan Lewis is not getting benched for Daron Bland lol. Lewis is coming off the best year of his career.

Just be happy Bland looks like viable CB depth and let’s hope he can step in as a starter next year as Anthony Brown is a FA. I doubt Stephen Jones will open his wallet for AB who’s going to get some good deals in FA, especially if he builds on last year.

We’re a year or two too early on some of these “let’s start X rookie now” threads.

Based on making plays. Tackling, you name it. He has shown his ability from day one and continues to get better.
He's got mad skills, but still appears to be a little raw technique wise. Hasn't played against a QB1 yet either.

I'm seeing the same thing you do, but as long as Diggs, Brown and Lewis are healthy, I'd prefer to give Al Harris some time with Bland before throwing him into the pool.

I'm higher on him than either Joseph or Wright.

Not from what i saw vs Seattle ... developing , promising but not there yet.

i need to see if he's gonna be just a forward only player .. or can he be equally adept at turning and looking up to make the play on the thrown ball in the air

What is with these DBs that cannot get their head turned around for the ball .. ??

If Jourdan Lewis is heathy I want him in the slot . Bland passed Joseph & Wright to be honest about this . On the long TD he gave up he had the coverage needed to turn around probably a pick

i really want Brown in the slot ..and come up with an idea No. 2 opposite Diggs, ..but that's in limbo right now.
Imo, Brown handles the slot coverage better than Lewis

- And Lewis cannot handle speed and his coverage can be too up and down too.

- Wright is too tall and leggy and cut upright to be a slot guy, ..he's purely an outside CB...and still one that
seems to have issues turning upfield and adjusting in coverage.

- He may be another that's a forward only player. so long as the WR is in front of him.

- i think Joseph will be carried on the 53 roster just for the sake of his 2nd round draft status.
He may be still quite distracted with the off field issues and possible personal conduct suspension from Goodell and the NFL.

- But i still haven't seen anything from him that's impressed me and think he's gonna be a difference making player.
Thus far he seems like just a JAG.

I love Bland but start him over Lewis? No, I don’t think so. Not at this point, anyway.

What I would probably do, if it were up to me, is make Bland the 4th corner behind only Diggs, Brown and Lewis. I’d get him ready to play dime snaps and he’d see a few plays a game, as long as everyone stays healthy.

The guy really is good for just having played in training camp. His coverage is very good already. The only real mistake he made, that I saw, was not turning his head to look for the ball. He was in the receiver’s hip pocket on that play. That’s the hard part. He just needs to learn to look for the ball.

One thing that really was encouraging to me was when he came up and had the TFL last night in the run game. That shows just how in tune his instincts for the position are. He’s a very solid player already and has elite physical traits. His growth potential is massive. By the end of this season, he will be much better than he is now.

DaRon Bland has tested as amazingly fine and reliable, for a rookie.

Yet, he needs time to gradually hone his skills vs. experienced WRs.

He'll be well suited to fill in for some of our vet WRs who get injured.

He'll likely qualify to survive the final roster cuts and contribute later.
