Bleacher Report -Tony Romo Is On Pace To Be Better Than Peyton Manning

I already know it ..... learn the difference in gaudy stats and success.

Or dont ..... really do not care.
You know something Z I always thought that players wanted to do one goal and that is win SBs.

You do have a very compelling argument about success that teams have had Peyton Manning, is on his way to being an all-time great QB and he has been successful throughout his career and he does have a SB to show for it.

That is whay I hate fantasy football so much because it has poisioned the minds of fans, and media people alike when it comes to stats of the individual player.

This article was useless in comparing Romo, to Manning both are totally different QBs and for those who still think that Romo isn't a good QB, need to go and jump off the nearest cliff they could find and if Romo, continues to play at the level he's playing now he will own every Cowboys QB record but as we know as a QB for the Cowboys they have to win a championship anything less will be useless.

Great analysis Z and don't waste your time with some of these people.

I agree.....he has done some remarkable things so far. Can he keep progressing like Peyton? Who knows but so far he is doing well. Technically Eli also is doing better than his brother.

How do you figure? Using the criteria this guy used, Eli's 2nd, 3rd and 4th seasons combined are not as good as Peyton's. I also noticed that some of this guys stats were incorrect.

Eli(Peyton)
29(29) wins
19(19) losses
60.4%(60.4%) win%
55.5%(62.4%) comp%
215.5(264.1) yards per game
6.4(7.68) ypa
71(85) TDs
55(53) INTs
16(32) difference
75.58(89.91) rating

Stats can say whatever you want them to, but I think something is to be said about the level of defenses each quarterback plays against on average in their career.

Tony is facing Giants, Eagles, and Commanders while Peyton is playing Texans, Titans, and Jaguars.

I never said that. I'm complaining about every time there is a positive thread on here, someone has to come in and start something and the whole thread ends up going downhill.

There are always "those" people that try to put everyone else in "their" perspective. This thread is full of "those" people. :p:

First, over much of Peyton's career the Jags were a regular top 10 defense, and the Titans have had good defenses as well. The Texans not so much early on, but they are much improved. Up to 13 last year.

On the other hand, The Skins, Giants and Eagles have been pretty stong the last 2-3 years, but they all had some down times before that.

And let's not forget some of the other defenses the Colts have to play against in the AFC - in 2008 for example they had to play against the Steelers (No. 1 defense), Ravens (No. 2), NE (No. 10), and Cincinnati (No. 12), not to mention a game against the Vikings (No. 6).

That same year Dallas had on their schedule Seattle (No. 30), St Louis (No. 28), Cleveland (No. 26) and Arizona (No. 19).

Bottom line is things even out and you can't say Peyton's production relative to Romo's is based on playing against easier defenses.

And then there is navigating the playoffs and winning the Super Bowl. Peyton has had to get through a few tough defenses to do that, whereas the Cowboys have rolled over against tough defenses in the playoffs.

I think Romo is a great quarterback (consider him top 6), but I think he is already close to his ceiling, while Manning continues to get better.

Yeah, Peyton's been building on his 49 TD year every year since. He should hit 65 TDs this year.

Team rankings are just as bendable as statistics unless you play a league-wide round-robin schedule. You could argue it's not very difficult to hold the #1 defense title when the most prolific offense you play in your division is the Ravens.

I still think Tony faces tougher competition. Not just because I think our division is tougher, but bad teams always tend to play harder against us.

Charles Haley was more successful

LT was a much better player but was not as successful in his chosen profession as Haley.

LT went to 10 Pro Bowls and was named 1st team All Pro, 9 times.

Both of their chosen professions was to get after the QB, as part of the larger group profession of winning Super Bowls. LT was more successful in that area.

Success is more than just accomplishing the ultimate team goal.

I think that is what everyone is trying to convey to you.

And I misspoke when I said "better".

I meant successful.

Zrin's premise is ridiculous. You have to separate NFL performance between individual success and team success.

While one player could be great on an individual level with Super Bowl rings to his credit. A unit or group of other players could have factored more into him and his squad getting those rings.

Stats can be misleading. Which is why a player like Drew Bledsoe racked up tons of stats simply because of the fact that he started for a long time and threw the ball a lot. Not because he was one of the greatest QBs to ever grace the league except for maybe 1995.

But there are QBs in the league's history who were one of the greatest at their professions with gaudy statistics.

Someone run and tell Dan Marino he wasn't as successful as Brad Johnson or Trent Dilfer.

Go ask Marino if he'd rather be in the HoF right now or have that ring. If hes like most current and former players, he would take the ring.

For players the regular season is only the long trudge for a shot at the post-season. If they lose in the post-season it's an unsuccessful season for them. That is if you actually care about winning things and not just money like Mr. Haynesworth and Revis.

Donovan McNabb or Trent Dilfer, which was more successful? The answer is Dilfer. Dilfer will always be remembered in Tampa because while he was their QB they won a Superbowl. McNabb will always be considered a failure in Philadelphia because he didn't.

Or to take it home, Danny White statistically speaking was nearly identical to Aikman statwise. Neitherhe or Romo are considered as good as Aikman despite having very similar and far superior stats respectively because they haven't won a ring.

You can say that Eli Manning is horribly overrated and I agree, but to say that he hasn't been successful is nuts as his is the only team in the NFC East that has won a title in the last decade and a half.

Really? Cause he won the Super Bowl in Baltimore. Brad Johnson won a Super Bowl with Tampa. Goes to show how remembered they are.

I love Romo, and he is a very good QB, but I don't care what his stats are in Dallas...he has to win a lot of freakin' football games before anyone should even mention him in the same breath as Peyton Manning. I'm not sure there's ever been a QB like Manning...ever.

Every year he seems to make stars out of receivers most people don't even think about...with very little running game and a suspect OL...he IS the offensive coordinator, not only on game day, but also in practice. People say he runs the offensive practice...period.

There's no one in the NFL running an offense anything like what Manning runs on the field every Sunday...add to that his arm, decisions, avoidance of sacks. Nope, you can tell me how good Romo is, but anyone comparing him to Peyton Manning loses all credibility.

Apparently the Cowboys players run the practices too.

I wish that somebody would post Shango's video where he defends Romo?

"Leave Romo alone....leave him alone. Leave him...alone.."

That would be a treat to watch right now...classic.

Just like Favre has not been as successful as Troy was.

I've heard LT referred to as the best defensive player in the history of the game, countless times. How many times have you heard this about Charles Haley?

I like Romo......but Payton Manning is the best I have witnessed in the 40 yrs....

Its so hard to campare players on a team sport.....without a OL....would Manning have success? or put up numbers like he has? We will never know....but I just look at the body of work that a player has done with the teammates he has........Payton as a QB.....I havent seen anyone better....JMHO tho...

Again you are talking about who was the better player ..... not what I said.

Who had more success as a QB in the NFL? Marino or Bradshaw?

Marino was a much better player ....... but Bradshaw had more success.

This is pretty simple guys.
