Helluva 8 game stretch. Per game: 105/148 for 1236 yards and 15 TD's

Am I misunderstanding?

That is correct. That is just the difference in their stats, not actual games played, but if Elway had 8 makeup games, it's unlikely he'd catch Dan.

Bledsoe is much better than Vinny. Vinny is someone who might not make it, but could as well, but he's nearly 10 years older than Drew.

If Vinny stopped today, here is what Bledsoe would need to catch him:

40 games, 80 of 214 (37%) for 3333 yards with 34 TDs and 72 INTs. Hail Mary numbers.

This is incorrect. Fouts played in a different era. You can not compare the passing games of that era to this. Bledsoe, IMO, has to do significantly more the Fouts IMO. Will he do this? It's possible but I still believe that he has to win a championship before he can feel good about getting in. I don't really understand why your arguing this Nors. You, yourself, have agreed on this point as a matter of record.
I couldn't agree more.

Why? Fouts played with a coach named Air Coryell. The guy was 90% pass. I don't even think they had a running back. If anything, Fouts #'s are inflated.

Because of the eras. In every era there has been a QB who's stats are mind blowing in comparison to the rest of the era. Fouts was that QB for his era. Bledsoe is not that QB for his era. There is a difference.

LOL!!!!

This is a misconception.

San Diego had some pretty decent running backs in those days.

Had a guy named Don Woods out of UNM who rushed for a thousand back in the 70s. Had a guy named Chuck Muncie who was as gifted a RB as I've ever seen. Had a guy named Lydel Mitchell who was pretty decent in the late 70s. Had a guy named Lional James. Had a guy named James Brooks who was a pretty decent all around back. Had a guy named Rod Bernstein (Aggie I think) who was decent.

The rules were just different in those days. San Diego threw a lot, by the standards of those days but nothing like today. The way defenses played the passing game was different. It's night and day. This could be thread by itself but suffice to say, the game was different.

Generally I agree, but SD was an anomoly. They would pass 2/3's of the time. They always ran up huge scores against opponents. I bet Fouts holds the record for 400yd games.

I will tell you that Fouts was not as prolific a passer as some of the ones today. Fouts had three 4 thousdand yard seasons which is good. But, he also had three 3 thousand yard seasons, five 2 thousand yard seasons and four seasons of a thousand or less. 79, 80 and 81 were extrodinary seasons for San Diego but, you have to remember that he played for 15 years in the NFL. Most of those years were not prolific. They were good by the standards of the day but not by todays standards.

SD actually had a very balanced Offense when Muncie was there- who was a real horse. It just looked much more pass oriented compared to the times.
