Bledsoe is a goner after this year... so

chris simms the pride of UT :lmao:

I am a longhorn student and rabid fan. Unfortunately, I will never forgive Simms for the Colorado implosion. I also thought Major Applewhite was a better college quarterback, and it always pisses me off to think that Simms stole games away from him.

I doubt Simms comes to Dallas, unless Romo is not working out by year's end. I am not totally convienced that Bledsoe leaves either.. I think it is very possible... but not 100% right now. He may realize that he will not be a starter in this league anymore and may decide to stick around for the last year of his contract,, esp if Bill stays. .. However.. just off the top of my head,, some names that come to mind that might be on the market, next year.. Jake Plummer, Trent Green, Leftwich, Bledsoe, Brunnell, Brooks, Simms,
Kurt Warner, Kerry Collins and I am sure there will be more.

but I doubt he'd want to be a backup

Hopefully Matt Baker on the PS can make the roster. No matter what, I subscribe to drafting a QB every draft. Stock pile them.

Qb coach in Miami and about 50 yrs old now :D

And probably still has better moves than Drew:D

You have to love a guy who was completely happy to be number 2.

Yeah, Parcells would NEVER play mind games with a player . . . .:laugh1:

He plays mind games for a purpose, not just for the hell of it. In this case I believe the decision would be to make Romo comfortable. That's just a guess though - Parcells may decide that it will make Romo better if he feels pushed. I doubt it though. Of course, like I said, all of this assumes Romo continues to play well.

I don't keep up with UTEP so who is he?

It's Jordan Palmer - Carson's little brother.

The guy is a good college QB, but I think many let the fact that he is Carson's brother affect them - he's probably not as good a prospect as many think.

That said, I wouldn't mind taking a shot at the guy if it were 5th round or later, but not any higher than that. I'm not sure where he is projected at this point.

I dont know who is available but I dont see how a rookie will be a good backup. If Romo ends up going down for significant time we will need someone who can slide in and not kill us. I dont see a rookie taken where we will be able to get one having this ability.

Jake Plummer would be my favorite to be a backup...but who knows if he would accept a backup role

I would be shocked if Bledsoe came back to Dallas. I take him at his word that he isn't interested in being a backup.

I could see him being a backup somewhere, but only if he loses out in a legitimate QB competition. Even then, I'm not sure he would stick around after preseason if the job were given to the other guy at that point.

Most of the other guys you named will be looking to start somewhere, or at least go to a team where they are given a true shot to win the starting job. If Romo continues to play as well as he has that shot won't be available. Brunnell and Warner may want to hang around and earn a paycheck, but who knows.

I don't know that Simms can find a place he is guaranteed a starting job - he isn't that good. However I do agree that he won't come to Dallas - he wants to know that he is at least in the running for the starting job.

Besides, assuming Romo continues to play well I doubt we will want to make it appear that we are bringing in competition. I suspect we will want Romo to come in knowing he is "the man".

I believe the best approach is to bring in a veteran backup (either an older former starter or a proven No. 2 man) as insurance and draft a youngster to develop in the mid rounds.

I agree.

Simms hasn't done enough to be guaranteed a starting spot anywhere...

A veteran backup AND a mid-round draft pick would be ideal...

We just might be looking for a backup for Mr. Romo.

So now comes word from Tampa Bay . . . .

Chris Simms is expected to make a full recovery. He might not, however, take another snap for the Bucs. Out for season while on injured reserve, Simms is a free agent after the season.

OK, Simms doesn't want to be a backup. even for America's Team. But Jerra does not know what NO means.

Bet he'd go after Simms, heartthrob of many UT fans. I say that Jerra would bite because Jerra has never been big on logic.

if we did there'd be 3 sons of former players Parcells coached on the 07 boys

There's no way this happens -- especially if Romo is firmly entrenched as the starter at the end of the year. He'll go somewhere where he'll be guaranteed the starting job. Hell, he'll probably be be back in TB -- I don't see them staying with that kid they have now.

They probably resign Simms to a short term deal and let him and Gradkowski battle it out for the job.

Jake Plummer sucks, period. He can't even succeed consistently in Mike Shanahan's dumbed down version of his already quarterback friendly, hold-my-hand offense. Earlier this year Shanahan was quoted as saying that he thought they could 'open' up their playbook more when Cutler was in the lineup. That is unheard of, you can open up your playbook more with an unproven rookie than your umpteen year, entrenched starter?

What does this say about Plummer? He's old and is still making the same stupid rookie mistakes and doesn't play like a seasoned vet with good decision making abilities. I'd rather draft a kid so that if Romo goes down we can keep OUR playbook 'open'.

I say draft a kid with playing style and skills comparable to Romo so that if he is called upon to play you don't have to change the whole offense.

This offense doesn't fit Drew Bledsoe anymore and that is why I don't think he's back next season.

Though Romo may just have a few bad games this year, it seems we may have found something with this kid. I would imagine Simms signing somewhere where he would have a chance to compete for the starting role. Unless thigns drastrically change, Romo is starting here indefinately.

I think it would be better to bring in a vet backup.

Scratch my Testaverde comment...

I think Favre comes in to be the backup. We will then have the student and the teacher!

I just don't know if Parcells' ticker can handle both of these guys.

:laugh2:
