For the same reason that some think he can walk on water.

I don't think he's great or horrible. I think he's middle of the road.

I'm a pretty avid Garrett supporter, but even I see the holes that he has.

I dont think any one on this board thinks he's some genius coordinator. He is however a pretty good one. I'd bet you the majority of the league would love to have him as an OC

Who wanted to draft Demarcus Ware over Spears?

Heck, JJ wanted Ware over both Spears and Merriman, both whom BP preferred. So, give credit where it's due. JJ does no talent.

If I remember correctly, it was BP who wanted Spears first but JJ wanted Ware...went with Ware. Smart move because he wouldn't have been there later.

Just playing devil's advocate here but did Jerry really want Aikman over Walsh? If so, why do you draft Walsh in the supplemental draft which in return you lose your #1 draft pick next season which ended up being the 1st overall pick.

If I remember correctly on that one, that was on Jimmy Johnson......plus, at the time, was Walsh just a terrible QB? I don't think he was at the time.

I guess I was moreso asking a question because I didn't understand if Jerry felt Aikman was the better qb even back then why take Walsh in the supplemental draft and lose your 1st overall pick in the next draft. And I know Jimmy was in love with Walsh but seemed like Jerry could override Jimmy in that instance especially when a 1st round pick is involved.

Walsh helped Jimmy get a 23-1 record at U of Miami and a National Championship....I'm sure that Jimmy was pretty adamant about getting Walsh. In fact, I'll bet it was Jones who talked Jimmy into starting Aikman. Remember, we won only one game that year and it wasn't due to Aikman as he was injured.

The reason I say that it was Jones talking Johnson into starting Aikman is due to the history that Johnson had with Walsh....nothing more.

good article: and I thought Walsh should start too: wow, I can't believe I just admitted that. That wasn't easy.....you won't see me make ANY comments on who should start in here for the reason(s) listed above. I'm just a fan....

just stop man....

Walsh got picked because Johnson correctly summized that the QB position in the draft was a crap shoot. Because the team was so poor and so lacking at the QB position, Johnson decided the risk was worth it to grab two potential franchise QB's, and that once he decided which one was "the guy" he'd easily be able to trade the other one. He was correct.

During training camp and preseason it quickly became OBVIOUS to all who the better player was, and thats why Aikman won the job out of TC. When Aikman got injured, Walsh took over and did win one game (the Paul Palmer game v Washington) but the second Aikman was cleared to play, he was again the starter. The next season, Walsh was traded to the Saints (I believe for 1st and 3rd rd picks).

Jones didnt "overrule" anybody. Jimmy made every single decision here, he had total control of all the football decisions.

Surely, you jest. Jerry Jones has always been in control of this franchise whether we like or not. Yes, Jimmy Johnson was a great football mind -- the main reason we won 3 out of 4. But it was Jerry who helped him get the players he wanted and OKed the things Jimmy suggested. If you're not sure who was really in control, just remember that when the feud came to a head, Jimmy is the one who had to leave. You can say Jimmy left on his own. You can say he was fired. It doesn't really matter. When Jerry Jones mentioned controlling socks and jocks, he meant it.

Jones had the ability to run off Johnson (which by the way, Johnson DID want out) but Johnson made all the football personnel decisions.

One is the owner the other is the coach. Can you give me one instance where the coach runs the owner of out town?

Yep. Jerry gave himself the GM title, but Jimmy was the main one responsible for building those championship teams.

On the other hand, Jerry's decisions as GM has led to 13 straight years of zero playoff wins. He hired a couple of HC's who never should've been HC's in the NFL and several who never should've been HC of the DALLAS COWBOYS. Not to mention his plethora of bad trades, overpaying both in terms of trades and salaries, and numerous terrible bad draft selections the last 15 years.

But hey, look here, he is capable of seeing what millions of other fans can when it comes to identifying several players who should be starting for us. Yippee.
