TALK HEATS UP OF LOVIE TO 'BOYS
There is increasing chatter in NFL circles that Bears coach Lovie Smith will, after the Super Bowl, make a move to become the coach of the Dallas Cowboys.
As one source explained it to us, the Cowboys gig is Smith's dream job. It's hardly a stretch, given that Smith grew up in Big Sandy, Texas.
Ten years ago, then-Patriots coach Bill Parcells jumped to the Jets after a Super Bowl loss. The Jets later compensated the Patriots for acquiring the team's head coach while he was still under contract.
Whether Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is willing to send a draft pick or two (and some cash) to the Bears is a different issue. But if Lovie refuses to do an extension and tells the Bears he wants to leave, they might not have any choice but to take whatever is on the table. Lovie is now holding the cards, and shame on the Bears for not locking him up a long time ago.

The bears will lock him up. Lovie to dallas is wishful thinking. The bears can't afford to have a public relations disaster like this. Lovie will get what he deserves from the bears.

Lovie's position is no different then if Jeff Fisher doesn't want to go back to The Titans.

I wouldn't call it a stretch just yet with Ron Rivera waiting in the wings for promotion if Lovie decides he wants to leave. If it's true that he was 5 million per, then there may be a problem with the Bears ownership.

They are plenty enamored with Rivera. But, Lovie's under contract for one more eyar, and if we want Rivera, he can bolt to be our HC. So, if ultimately they want Rivera, how would they end it with Lovie? Can you really fire the guy that just turned your team around?

I think Lovie stays. He'll get paid.

not really - talk is they wanna promote rivera and go from there. the trick now is who's responsible for much of their success? like all places, i view the staff entirely as successful. while you can sometimes pull a good piece out here and there and have it be effective, it doesn't always work that way.

all that said, i'd have no problem with him as our coach! or rivera.

or rex ryan. : )

i saw this earlier but didn't want to jinx it -- I've got serious love for Lovie -- but not draft picks for him type love.

I wouldn't mind Lovie in Dallas, but I would be surprised if the Bears let him go. There are several guys I would like to see get a shot in Dallas.

the bears are finally going to have to pony up big bucks to a coach- should be interesting.

A major cable news network did a brief story this morning. They said Lovies mother wants him to come to Dallas and that's her dream. They mentioned he is the lowest paid HC in the NFL. Interesting development, but I hope Jerry doesn't give up draft picks.

I'd give up picks to get him...maybe, obviously it depends on what picks

he's going to have to give up one or maybe more. it all depends on Lovie. if he say he wants to leave, they may not be able to dictate the compensation.

Lovie thinks Rex Grossman is a QB. That right there says all I need to know.

Have you been watching the Bears? Lovie pretty much held an open competition for QB -- and that seemed to light a fire under Grossman's butt.

Trade TO straight up for Lovie. Throw in Bradie James if need be...

I would draft Lovie as coach with our second pick in the draft ...... in a heartbeat .......

But if we can get Rivera or Ryan for free lets do that .......

But Lovie for a second is a great deal. IMHO

oh yeah -- it isn't like Lovie drafted Grossman -- he was there when he arrived. Lovie has twice drafted QBs looking to replace Rex.

So that makes it worse. He can't replace Grossman? Carter would replace Grossman and that isn't saying much.
