I'm not aware that knowledgable Cowboys fans disliked Payton. Got any evidence?

There were plenty on many forums. Go way back and read I guess.

Copper's release didn't surprise me at all. The only part that surprised me was keeping Miles Austin.

The only real surprises to me were Petitti and Boiman. Boiman seemed like a defensive Copper -- a guy that would be just a special teamer, but a valuable one at that. Especially after the strong camp I expected him on the team. Guess we just had too many linebackers.

It'll be interesting to see if the Petitti release comes back to bite us. He obviously fell out of favor as a starter but appeared very valuable as a backup, at the least -- kinda like a Kurt Vollers. Seems those kinds of guys don't have lengthy tenures under Parcells.

It's obvious that McQuistan is now the preferred "developmental" tackle over Rob. Hopefully, Fabini is OK as the backup and Colombo excels as a starter.

ditto on the surprises. We must have thought that someone would steal Austin if we relegated him to the PS. I was surprised by Pettiti and Boiman getting axed too but not Copper. Just wasn't room for Copper and didn't seem like he would ever really be anything special at WR.
I actually think Pettiti and Copper will do well on our JV team (New Orleans).
I see your point about Vollers...but I don't think Vollers fit here style-wise. I think he fits better where he is and is thus enjoying more success.

Baker, Glymph, and Stanley are guys I'd like to keep. I'm afraid we'll end up losing one or more of them. I really like Glymph....6'7 270 LB who has some talent...seems like a great fit for a 3-4 ILB. That's almost as big as some of the smaller OL around the league.

I was a little surprised by that cut. I really hope we can keep him. Nothing but upside.

Saints placed WR Bethel Johnson on injured reserve, ending his season.

Johnson hurt his knee in the preseason. Not that he's very good, but New Orleans' receiving corps is probably the league's worst.

I think it was Vollers injury that ended his stay here, they gave him an injury settlement and couldn't bring him back. With hindsight they should have stashed him on the inactive list until he was healthy. He was strictly a backup/stopgap player, but would have played well enough last year to have kept us afloat in the playoff hunt.

Funny you say that because, correct me if I'm wrong, they just willingly parted with Donte Stallworth, who is supposedly going to be the missing piece in Philly....

I won't be surprised if they pick up Skyler Green as well with the LSU ties and Bethel Johnson going down.

The main reason I was surprised to see them ship Stallworth to Filthy.

A coach picking up some former players he's familiar with as he tries to rebuild.

Imagine that.

I'm sure there's some whiny Saint's fans wanting to run him out of town for doing so...which certainly has a familiar ring to it.

I cannot wait for D. Ware to line up against Petitte during this season. He will probably have 5 sacks against that joke of a tackle!:laugh2:

I wonder if Payton will try to trade for Kerry Collins? ;)
