BLOG: Saints strike again... claim Copper too

In a couple of pre-season games the announcers kept calling him Cooper instead of Copper.

So it was just a joke.

A lot of people do.

If he was named after another precious metal, he wouldn't have that problem.
Yeah, if his name was Gold no one would think he was Elliott Gould's son. If his name was Silver no one would add an s and make it Silvers and ask if he was related to Phil.

They should both help the Saints. If the Saints oline can give Brees time, they should be able to move the ball.

He's a rookie and hasn't played in a real game so why wouldn't he?

It's actually his third year in the league. He was on the 53 man but inactive for the last three games of 2005, per the CBA rules related to signing players from another team's PS (we signed him from Atl).

I don't think he has enough accrued games or seasons to be ineligible for the PS, though.

no way petitti starts at LT. Brown has that locked down, he may start at RT though.

My bad...I'd never heard of him until this year.

From "O Brother, Where Art Thou".....

George Nelson: Cows! I hate cows worse than coppers!
[fires his Tommy gun at them]

Delmar O'Donnell: Oh, George... not the livestock.

As far as most of the cuts, well..., i don't have a horse in those races. But as far as Copper and Pettiti go, I wish them the best except when they play us. Sometimes talent doesn't count for as much when you see someone work so hard as these two and give everything and be the class players that they are. Good luck :star:

Funny, most fans couldn't stand Payton when he was here. Now that he's picking up our cast offs he is going to get labeled a genius.:)

Good luck to both players.

I'm not aware that knowledgable Cowboys fans disliked Payton. Got any evidence?

Yep, I pull for Peyton to have success and I think Copper and Petitti will help them have it.

No offense to Copper or Petitti, but do you really think that either of them will help the Saints have success? Do you really think that either of them is anything more than back-up material?

I don't. I think they are good for what they are (backup T and 4th or 5th WR), but I find it hard to think they will have any impact.

It will be interesting to see if the Cowboys choose to sign Skyler Green to their practice squad or on the other hand if Green decides to sign with another team's practice squad. He sure has fallen far. He was a highly regarded return man at the draft by pretty much everyone and it's not like the Cowboys really reached for him. But, he showed so little in the preseason that his stock has really fallen.

no doubt we'll sign Skyler to the PS, hell, we signed Woody Dantzler to it

Copper will do well for the Saints on Steams, and I wouldn't be suprised to see him get in on a couple of ST tackles against us

Why are folks upset when a guy who isn't PS eligible gets picked up?

yeah, it was a joke, it stopped being one the minute we had to explain it to you  thanks alot! ;)
Yeag was too genius for that mistake, what was I thinking?:p:

Copper's release didn't surprise me at all. The only part that surprised me was keeping Miles Austin.

The only real surprises to me were Petitti and Boiman. Boiman seemed like a defensive Copper -- a guy that would be just a special teamer, but a valuable one at that. Especially after the strong camp I expected him on the team. Guess we just had too many linebackers.

It'll be interesting to see if the Petitti release comes back to bite us. He obviously fell out of favor as a starter but appeared very valuable as a backup, at the least -- kinda like a Kurt Vollers. Seems those kinds of guys don't have lengthy tenures under Parcells.

It's obvious that McQuistan is now the preferred "developmental" tackle over Rob. Hopefully, Fabini is OK as the backup and Colombo excels as a starter.
