Jerry & Stephen really need to get together on their free agent strategy. One wants to consider being subjectively aggressive, while the other doesn't want to even consider it. Such stupidity! It really sounds like it's time for Jerry to step aside and permit Stephen to take the reins of this team. If they're not capable of working together, all hope is, apparently, lost. No wonder this aimless team sucks!
Look, just because their choice of words happen to be different, doesn't mean behind the scenes you know not tipping their hand isn't on the same page maybe they have a plan and there's not letting everyone know... maybe this confusion is purposeful or just don't listen to what they have to say because it's really hollow you can't take either one with more than a grain of salt..
. What I took from Jerry's statements is this he confuses himself ,he didn't choose the proper words, because what he meant was, because this question was free agency before the draft, were they going to be aggressive and he didn't feel they had large enough voids from the starter group to be desperate and getting into a bidding war with the Tier 1 early free agent frenzy.. which doesn't always work out well for teams, they don't feel the need to do that it doesn't mean they will do it, he's just saying they weren't entering FA period early on with desperation.
I think they both meant the same thing, they just said it differently, and it doesn't mean they won't be in play for a big name free agent whether it's earlier one that's left after the first 2+ weeks, the tier two players still have a lot of production offer a team and or just because they don't get aggressive with free agency before the draft let's make sure that's in bold quoted letters before the draft doesn't mean they won't make a trade or 2,
but there are players that are being released in the last couple of days and the days to come and they will be more after the draft that will be some surprises like a guy like Tyler Lockett so right now maybe they're not targeting somebody but then one guy drops on the street and then they go get him go get him...
So yes, it sounded like it was confusion, but I don't believe it is I think they're making all this moves to free up money just in case there is opportunities, and they'll make those decisions when they come but not go out and get crazy.
They really haven't done that in a long time and most teams don't participate in that first five or six days where they're all out bidding each other for the same player and those players don't always workout.
I mean I know the eagles just won a Super Bowl but they paid huff to be a top tier pass rusher and he did absolutely nothing this year nothing he literally wasn't even active for the Super bowl that was a lot of money, and I know they decided it was worth the risk BUT most teams do NOT!
