Why not go Ruben Foster and then Demarcus walker in the second? I hope I'm wrong, but I think Walker is better than Taco
I think the shoulder injury and the positive test may have scared them. Randy Gregory! Do I need to say more?

I wanted to go Foster too. But he had too many red flags:
1. The hospital incident.
2. The diluted drug sample
3. The shoulder injury.

I was listening to the Paul Finebaum show when he had on Reuben Foster. Finebaum was missing obvious follow-up questions. Foster was discussing how he wanted to get to a club and then he can start working on his shoulder. And Finebaum failed to ask him "What's wrong with your shoulder" or "What do you mean 'start working on your shoulder'?"

Furthermore, I believe that the Randy Gregory gamble made us gunshy drafting Foster. I hope this doesn't turn out to be a Greg Ellis-Randy Moss situation because Foster - if he doesn't have a drug problem and doesn't have a degenerative condition in his shoulder - could turn out to be a game-changer and a perennial all-Pro.

Why would anybody want him to play OLB? He is a 4-3 DE all the way.

Fact. I have NO idea what that was all about. You are spot on. He can make an instant impact if he buys in and his work ethic matches his talent. We know Rod will coach him up.

Damn good post. I feel the same way, but you never know with these guys. Look at Leary. Most teams were scared off about his knee but we stole him because it held up. Foster will rock for the 49er's IF healthy. If not...he'll be a flop.

This dude is 3rd on the DE SPARQ chart and far above guys like TJ Watt. As already mentioned, if you like Irving, you'll like this guy. Maranelli likes this guy, we just need to put faith in medical science and Marine grit to keep the badass alive.

Yep. He is a far superior athlete to Watt, and IF Charlton's work ethic matches his athletic ability this will be a great pick. If not...it won't. Remember, he didn't even start in college until last year. Underachieved in a big way frankly. Guys like that worry me some. But the job of our front office is to measure how much he loves the game and how hard he'll work. They seem satisfied.

The guy I compare him to is Michael Strahan who was 6'5" 275.
I dont expect Taco to come in and get double digit sacks.
Strahan went 1,4.5, 7.5, 5 before blowing up in year 5.

Taco is a big dude and he'll need time in the league to figure it all out and grow into his manchild body.

Taco would have played inside for most collegiate teams. He's long, big and of course looks a step slow versus guys who weigh 30-40 pounds less.

What exactly has Rod Marinelli done in his tenure here that I see 75% of Cowboys fans state something to the effect of "gotta trust Marinelli?"

With regards to our defensive line... yes. This is going to be a rough year on defense.

honestly ufcrueles: I said that in 2014 and I was dead wrong. I expected more in 15 then disaster stroke. 2016 i was looking for a 15 repeat but the D/line
give some credible performances. I expect at minimum the same 2017 . Will that make fans happy,no. 2018 this 2017 draft will mature IMO

And FWIW, I am not sure we are done at DL this draft. I could see them taking a late round project at DE or maybe even a DT in the 4th.

I don't think DL will be a big issue for us. Will it be dominant? Not sure about that but it won't be a disaster. The secondary is still our biggest head ache IMO.

And no, I wouldn't have taken King at 28 over Charlton. King is just way too raw for my liking.

There were also questions about Foster's ability to learn complicated pass coverage schemes in the NFL. Modern off the line LBs have to be great in coverage to justify a 1st round pick.

Gregory? How about our well known Bama backer drafted high first round who kept quitting football and drinking lean?
