Bob McGinn - Scout's Comments on Byron Jones

One thing I haven't seen mentioned yet about this Jones pick, have you listen to him talk? If you are looking to add any nasty to the defense this isn't the guy. He seems like a guy who routinely mails out Just Because cards.

Woodson was not a trash talker and came off as a class player when being interview, I don't think anyone would say Woodson did not bring toughness to that defense. This kid played injured and still produced he has some toughness in him. Just because a guy is educated and not a thug does not indicate he does not play tough

If that is the case, begin his Cowboy career at FS and move on from Wilcox. Choose one or the other to give him an opportunity to master a position.

Initially, yeah....but if he's going to be Darren Woodson he's going to have to know how to play it all in the secondary. That dude was a box safety who could line up in the slot and erase a wideout. I don't think he gets enough credit for how outstanding he truly was.

Reportedly, his dad was a cop and he's got siblings in the military. He's probably a pretty tough dude when it comes down to it.

Claiborne would be a fine corner if he weren't such a tool. This kid is far more athletic and you. Will never hear anyone call him dumb.

How would Claiborne have been a fine corner? He had subpar speed, no closing ability, not very athletic and can't even tackle. Mo should have been a 3rd rounder at best.

I watched his film after he was selected and it had bust written all over it despite people calling him the 2nd coming of Deion.

I am not.

I'm keeping my reply simple for those who qualify.

Seems to me that there has been plenty of examples over the years of college basketball and football players who came out of college not being able to read. In summary, big time college football programs look the other way and in general do whatever they need to to ensure their players remain eligible. The idea that they are actually trying to educate the kids is a secondary concern.

He would be fine, never said anything about Deion.

Go rewatch the old NFC championship games. Woodson used to lay the wood and let you know about it. He kept it all on the field but it is what it is.

Never said on the field, he did not talk with the media like some thug. You can be a nice guy off the field and an educated guy and still be a force on the field.
When someone says Jones was well spoken and polite during the interview then says he will not be so called nasty on the field. I don't agree with that at all.

Ahh, I see what you are saying. My bad.

It sucks when you have to point out the obvious doesn't it?

Lmaooo

I enjoy reading all the over-reactions after a draft pick.

Sit back, relax, and lets see how he performs in September.

Then when we criticize in September, you'll tell us to wait 3 years.

Then if we criticize after 3 years, you'll tell us to stop living in the past.

Cowboys draft has been doing pretty well lately helping us to a 12-4 season, Cowboys must be doing something right. I understand we all have pet cats but the team is looking at players from a bit different vantage point than outsiders. They are make an off the cuff move they evidently knew exactly who they wanted and how they felt he fit in with what they want out of the secondary

This guy? He's still out there.

lol!!!

Not saying you said anything about Deion. But saying that he would have been fine is going overboard for someone with the skillset as Mo being selected where he was.

I think the worst case scenario is he's our new Darren Woodson.

I'm just wondering how that's a bad thing. We haven't adequately addressed that position since he left. The next Darren Woodson or a situational lineman (Brown would never be a 3 down player in our scheme. 3 down nose tackle in a 3-4? You bet)? I'll take the Woodson, myself.
