Posters are mentioning Torrence inparticular because the War Room audio clearly mentions the first pick discussion was either Mazi or O-line. Its presumed that it was Avila and/or Bergeron (to switch inside), as both were gone before the 58th pick. Fans may have preferred Torrence, but I cant remember (or they havent disclosed) a heated discussion on Torrence vrs Schoonmaker so presumably, despite the apparent need for a LG, he wasnt a factor, may mentioning footwork and possibility that he's limited to RG.
Common thoughts from the media I listened to seems to indicate it was Mazi or Bergeron.

You’re right it seems the board is pissed that Torrence wasn’t the pick at 58 but I don’t think he was even considered. Think the only offensive lineman they would of chosen at all came off the board before 58 (Avila, Bergeron, and Mauch)

I would think OG Torrence would have been an ideal fit to help protect Dak.....but time will tell.
Because of his limitations, the Cowboys weren't interested.

Many teams felt that way and he almost fell into the 3rd round.

Torrence is vastly overrated in here.

I agree. Too many people are caught up in these rankings floating around the internet. None of them take into account what specific teams are looking for in a player at a certain position. Looks to me like Dallas had a few OL they would have considered early but didn’t care for a few that were rated kind of high. They seemed to prefer looking at OTs later in the draft that could move inside. So we got Richard’s and a few UFAs to add to the mix.

People keep mentioning Hendershot and I don't get it. The kid had 11 catches last year along with 6 penalties (3rd highest on the entire team).

He might turn into an undrafted feel good story but he could just as easily be a guy off the roster in a few years.

I also think people are underestimating Schoonmaker's athletic ability. I believe he ranked 5th at TE in RAS in a draft that had an usual about of TEs scoring in the 90th percentile, not to mention his blocking ability.
Yep and it makes the 12 man Personnel downs even more likely. Just helps overcome the predictability of Kellen's led offense.

@Hawkeye0202 are there stats regarding Fergershots blocking successes? Someone's actually mentioned McKeon as being the comparison due to the blocking..... as if him being on the field creates anything other than telegraphing we're about to run.

I think we view Schoonmaker as able in the receiving game, just restricted as Michigan run the ball.
Here are their snaps from last season...........

Yep and I would imagine if one of them were available at 58 the discussion about them or Schoonmaker would/could have been very different.

Cheers, (not asking for much lol), but are there stats that differentiate between 12 and 11 personnel and Schultz stats

I believe Michigan tends to run the ball over 60% of the time. That doesn't leave a lot of room for a crazy passing attack or numbers.

Their 2 QBs and 2 RBs combined for 3000 on the ground in 2022.

Also they have trash QB play for about a decade now. Tough to shine as a receiver in Michigan. Im a Wolverine Alumn

Most Michigan guys drafted every year are from the Defense.

People keep suggesting Torrence...I myself would've rather have had him but the Cowboys don't value Torrence like I or others do. ITs just what it is. The sooner people realize this the easier these drafts will be to consume lol.
How do you know they don’t value Torrence?

maybe they have an overconfidence in their current lineman. We’ve seen that before.

maybe they thought te was a bigger need? Maybe they thought they could get a guard later and weren’t able to.

Worst pick in the last 4 years by the Cowboys. They reached for need and in the process left some very very good players on the board. This guy is David LaFluer 2.0
If Schoon starts he will be better than half the 2nd round picks in the last 5 years.

Dallas wasted a 2nd on a soon-to-be 25-year-old blocking TE.....there is no covering that up no matter how many prop posts are created.
Remember that every time he scores a touchdown.

Because they don’t draft by need they draft based on their board….if they drafted by need Lamb wouldn’t be here.

LOVE this pick. Fans will be excited on Sundays seeing him.

Tall, lean target *Long Strider *Agile releasing off the LOS *Fluid body control *Extension of the offensive line *Blocking immediately pops Gets hands inside Constantly fighting to win hand leverage Creates lift…

Besides the blocking sounds like Escobar.
Long Strider - Ugh! He's not blowing by defenders at 4.65. And long striding it, he's not making hard cuts either. How is the "Long Strider" going to get open?

As a Michigan fan I like Schoomaker. I think he is solid. However, I am not sure he is much better than Ferguson or Hendershot so why waste the pick. I would have picked the Oline man from Florida
Well if Ferguson goes down, Schoonmaker is there for depth. Who knows, maybe Schoonmaker starts day 1.

Hendershot still has a lot to prove.

LOL ....just say you don't the pick. I'm sure you know speed has little to do with getting open. As long as he runs the correct route(s), he will be fine.
