I don't mind the pick. I was hoping for LaPorta but, when he left the board, I was fine with Schoonmaker and even though he may have been taken a little early I understand they didn't trust he would be there @ 90.As a Michigan fan I like Schoomaker. I think he is solid. However, I am not sure he is much better than Ferguson or Hendershot so why waste the pick. I would have picked the Oline man from Florida
Admitting ur mistakes and learning from them.... you find a GM that does that, and you got a good GMthis is exactly what we did with Kelvin joseph too.there was a run on CBs and we panicked and picked the wrong Cb instead of Samuel who actually knows how to play CB.it shows they are not learning from their mistakes.
Old for an NFL rookie; turns 25 going into week 4 of the25 isn’t old. 8)
If that really is true, and their draft evaluation process is heavily biased towards "who can help most THIS season", then their draft process is BAD. That's the exact wrong way to use the draft. That's how ur supposed to use Free Agency.the decision at 58 was between these two and the belief was Schoonmaker could help more this season.
And generally speaking that raises questions as to his commitment and coachability. Given the virus that shall not be named, there are a ton of older prospects this year. Not the same as usual.Old for an NFL rookie; turns 25 going into week 4 of the
To be balanced, both Ferguson and Hendershot recently turned 24 (Jan 18th and April 23rd, respectively) and McKeon will be 25 yrs & 7 mos during the first week of training camp. And generally speaking that raises questions as to his commitment and coachability. You’re right it seems the board is pissed that Torrence wasn’t the pick at 58 but I don’t think he was even considered. Think the only offensive lineman they would of chosen at all came off the board before 58 (Avila, Bergeron, and Mauch)As
As if it came down to just the Schoon and Torrence for the 58th selection, and the Cowboys decided to choose the Schoon instead.
Also, keep in mind having flex Olinemen is huge for them. Remember last season, many mocks had us drafting Kenyon Green or Zion Johnson both guards. We later learned ( McClay implied ) they never seriously targeted either coz of limited flex. You’re right it seems the board is pissed that Torrence wasn’t the pick at 58 but I don’t think he was even considered. I heard so much about that 12 personnel package during the Garrett years and it made me sick to hear about it. I hope they never use that package again. They want to run a lot of 12 personal with Fergy and Schoonmaker
It is for a football player. It means you get one less contract out of him.25 isn’t old. 8)
Yea but teams had Washington flagged for some reason according to Broddaus.Yep and Washington has the better upside
That is what the report said. It wasn't detailed. Other teams felt the same way. That is why he wasn't a first rounder. How was O'Cyrus Torrence limited?
He was picked with run gamenin mind. He is an extension of OL and good down field blocker. Add Pollard as an outside run and catch threat and it makes senseAs a Michigan fan I like Schoomaker. I think he is solid. However, I am not sure he is much better than Ferguson or Hendershot so why waste the pick. I would have picked the Oline man from Florida
quick interior rushers with well-developed counters could be too much for his limited foot quickness to handle without help. He projects as a future starter for downhill offenses who covet size over athleticism. How was O'Cyrus Torrence limited? He never allowed a sack in college and only had 2 penalties called against him all while being a road-grading run blocker.....so if drafting a near 25-year-old blocking TE made sense then passing on Torrence made ZERO sense.
SI comments on Torrence:
""Large human in terms of outright mass. Mainly a guard but has moved out to tackle and handled the duties well in limited snaps. Arms and strength to finish plays. Plays long with heavy hands at the point of attack. Can slide his feet and anchor against interior push. Cerebral with the reactionary skills to handle what's in front of him, then pick up delayed blitzers. Gets defenders off their spot in the run game. Able to pull and kick out the edge on rare gap scheme play calls. Regularly maintains leverage and uses it to his advantage in the zone running game."
Yea, the more you read, it's obvious he wasn't a good fit.......simple as thatquick interior rushers with well-developed counters could be too much for his limited foot quickness to handle without help. He projects as a future starter for downhill offenses who covet size over athleticism.
From Lance Zierlein at NFL. Com
Read the last sentence, he doesn't fit what the Cowboys are looking for, since MM has been the head coach they have gone after more athletic type guys. Look at MM's Green Bay O lines, not a lot of big maulers there either.
It's not hard to figure out, they didn't want him or they wanted the other guy more at 58 because he wouldn't make it to their next pick and they value the TE more at this specific point in time.
