Dallas wasted a 2nd on a soon-to-be 25-year-old blocking TE.....there is no covering that up no matter how many prop posts are created.
I hate to agree but it certainly looks like the worst pick of the weekend for us in terms of value and what else could have been picked at the same time. I guess only time will tell

Yep and Washington has the better upside
Washington's foot flagged him. He was a late 1st early 2nd guy but slid because of the medical concern. Which says something because they didn't mind Jaylon or even Clark last year...but completely took Washington off their board because of it which is interesting.

This is some premature crap and its the same crap y'all say every year. You don't like the pick? Fine. I'm not a fan of it either. But to sit here and say they wasted the pick is insane. Let him fail first. Damn.

I think it was a good pick. We'll find out sooner than later.
Not a fan of the pick but I See the potential the player has. Not excited to hear he will be 29 when his deal is up....I mean but who knows...I guess as a 2nd rounder you get a good 4 years out of a guy that becomes a starter you take it but the higher the pick the younger I'd want them to be honestly.

He is a better blocker than either. That is what the Cowboys were looking for.

The OL you wanted is limited and that isn't what the Cowboys are looking for.

They know what they want and draft accordingly.
How was O'Cyrus Torrence limited? He never allowed a sack in college and only had 2 penalties called against him all while being a road-grading run blocker.....so if drafting a near 25-year-old blocking TE made sense then passing on Torrence made ZERO sense.

SI comments on Torrence:

""Large human in terms of outright mass. Mainly a guard but has moved out to tackle and handled the duties well in limited snaps. Arms and strength to finish plays. Plays long with heavy hands at the point of attack. Can slide his feet and anchor against interior push. Cerebral with the reactionary skills to handle what's in front of him, then pick up delayed blitzers. Gets defenders off their spot in the run game. Able to pull and kick out the edge on rare gap scheme play calls. Regularly maintains leverage and uses it to his advantage in the zone running game."

It was good in that he isn’t going to be a bust.

He’s a safe prospect.

I guess you can argue that he has upside too since his testing is off the charts.

In college though he just would get open, catch the ball, fall down.
I'm a fan of the pick, I can't count how many times the guy Schultz was supposed to block made the tackle on a running play. Luke should be ahead of the game early in that respect and I think it will pay dividends. His receiving didn't start to take off until this year but he definitely has the upside and his 4.63 second 40 yard dash was faster than Mayer's and pretty respectable for a 251 pound 6'5" guy. NFL had him ranked 44th overall behind Washington but I heard he had some medicals with a knee issue if so I'm glad we dodged that issue. These are some observations from his NFL draft profile:
  • Gets off the ball and into his routes with adequate quickness.
  • Fluid feet to get in and out of route breaks.
  • Sinks into soft spots of zone, allowing spacing from defenders.
  • Able to drop and dig out the low throws.
  • Displays the fortitude necessary for NFL run blocking.
  • Generates lift from hip explosion into contact.
  • Keeps a wide base into and through his sustain blocks.
  • Impressive feel for hand resets as base blocker.

Pure speculation on my part but I think his age may allow for him to be much more NFL ready than most of these other tight ends. His age and the Michigan offense he played in gives him an advantage. Has to be their thinking her. I'm expecting this guy to come right in and get snaps for us.

this guy better be one of the best blocking TE’s of all time!! to pass on Torrence who would’ve filled imo the biggest need on the team

Hey skippy, it's called an opinion that is allowed to be expressed in this group. If you don't like the opinion, then keep your mouth shut and move on.
I'm entitled to disagree with your opinion no? You said we wasted the pick. How on earth do you make a "wasted pick" and determine that less than 48 hours since making the pick? He hasn't even taken the field yet.

They had a good interview with Wells who said that exact thing. The other comment was the offense Michigan runs is similar to what we do so he should have a leg up on that.
