You believe the 49ers gave up all that draft capital for a backup QB? You think Jerry traded a 4th for a QB just for the hell of it and not because his scouts rated him as a high second round pick the year he entered the draft?
You’re the one who said he’s not a starting QB as if he could never be one. You keep repeating it to entrance people with it.
Rating someone in the draft is not the same as rating someone 2 years later.
The Niners specifically Lynch, fell in love with Trance's potential, not his floor. They believed their current team was talented enough to let him struggle and develop. They were massively incorrect. They recognized it, signed Darnold and punted. Then they let Purdy, an experienced college QB drive the bus.
Shanahan wanted to stay put in the draft and he wanted Mac Jones. A very experienced college QB, who easily could drive the bus in SF. Shanahan gave into and signed off on Trance, against his better instincts.
Then we sign Trance to a contract that expires at the same time as Dak's. The entire world new Trance needs experience. When and how was he going to get that sitting behind Dak?
If we signed him to be a back up it was a dumb trade. We already had a legit backup in Rush. If we signed him to take over for Dak, when and how was he going to get the experience that he desperately needed?
No matter what way you want to look at the trade, it was completely stupid.
Trading for a player entering year 3 based off their original draft grade is unbelievable stupid. Players are constantly reevaluated. That is why GM Jethro needed to talk to his his scouts and Coaching staff before making a moronic decision by himself.
