San Diego has been on a roll the last few years with their personnel decisions. I really think Dallas has done a solid job as well. There are always a few misses---which is fine as long as you counter it with some unexpected hits.

Thanks Tarzan. I seem to remember that the 70% you speak of actually wanted Cromatrie but secretly got together in the NFL-Zone and decided it would be much more fun to Clown you. I don't have any posts handy to support this, but I'm sure if you go back and do hours of thorough research to review each post made around that time, you will see this to be true.

Thanks Jane! You were looking sexy last night in that zebra thong for me....

The only thing you have been "clowned" for is your Quinn Fetish.

Cromartie was well on his way to being a bust last year before he broke out. We shall see. As for Carp, i can name several games where he played well when given a chance. i can think of only one where he played poorly and he was hurt int aht game. Its too bad that that was the game that he was being evaluated.
Cromartie was never on his way to being a bust. I wanted him over Bobby, but I don't know what kind of deliberations went on behind the scenes with the Cowboys. Who knows, our doctors could have had concerns on how he would come back from injury.

I on record wanted cromartie but 70% of the board here never heard of him (how I dont know) and was clowned because he was 'unproven'.

My arguement was that you cant teach talent and sure enough talent prevailed..
I totally agree with you on this part. But, I think you should have said 7% instead of 70% in the 1st part. :laugh1:
I think most people's concern over Cromartie was his injury, not his talent. ;)

Maybe the reason we didn't take him, was because we had pegged him as a second round pick because of injury concerns, and SD just reached for him?

That's not true at all.
Cromartie was being prepped for starting in his rookie year and played quite well in his brief moments on the field as a #3 CB. So well that he broke into the starting lineup his 2nd season.
He was also used primarily on KR that season where he averaged 30 yards a return.

It's dumb however to cry over who we could have had or should have had unless you honestly wanted someone else on draft day other than Carp. Of course we all want Cromartie now. But did you then? Would you have used a 1st on an injured DB from FSU who had seen on limited playing time in college?

Yes.

Been discussed to death.

To be fair, Cromartie did blow out his knee in college. After missing on that
OT, I think Dallas didn't want to take the chance.

Jammer had been average and Florence was right there on the average scale as well. There was major concenr in SD about him not being able to beat then out. You can use revisionist history if you want to about how they knew all along but that was garbage. Their secondary was clearly the weakest unit of the team and he couldnt break into it.

As for Carp i will not simply forget 2006. After the 2006 season he was anything but a bust and was the best player on the field for us in the playoff game. he was playing OLB against a guy that likes to run in Holmgren and they couldnt break 2.9 YPC. he certainly was holding the point in a more physically demanding position that day.

The talk of him being a bust all boils down to a single game last August. That is it and he was hurt. You cant point to games before that because he ended the previous year strong playing on the line at SOLB. You cannot point to the year after because in the linited chances he had he performed well. He didn't dog it like a lot of players would have.

you can put me down as not thinking Carp forgot how to play football but instead never got a shot. Now that hes healthy we will see more of 2006 and not August of 2007.

Save JFK's life in Dallas? Screw that. We're gonna use that time machine to amend bad draft picks. Priorities, people.

Didn't want either one...preferred Santonio Holmes. He'd be looking pretty good here now.

Perhaps I should start a thread.... Nah, that'd be too much like I had nothing better to do in my life.

San Diego rolled the dice big time on Cromartie.....he was injured at FSU, a serious one, if I am not mistaken. I cant believe he was even a first round pick.....

I wanted Manny Lawson....When he was still there at 22 and we took Carpenter I wanted to puke. I was watching the draft with a friend who is a Niners fan, and he wanted Lawson too.......well he was grinnin like a possum eatin poop when the Niners nabbed Lawson a few picks later.

I have learned over the years to not covet certain players, cause when I do, it is written in stone that they will never be Cowboys.....Thank goodness I never liked Irvin, Aikman, or Maryland in college.

They sure did roll the dice. This draft thing is such a crap shoot...How many teams are kickin' themselves for not taking Whitten with one of their first 3 picks in the draft? How about MB111. We have done fine lately. Not going to hit home runs every time...Unless maybe your on the clear!

Pointless. At the end of the day, Carp will still be a Cowboy, and I will still be a millionaire who fights crime by night.

If stating "I told you so's"...

I liked Cromartie alot in that draft.
I was dogged for saying Carp looked like a bad pick in the 1st round during his first season.

And my most coveted pick in that year's draft...

Greg Jennings when everyone else said "Greg who?"

Such is life and the NFL.
