Bobby Carpenter's Failed Heroics

We always want the guys to make plays. He tried, had he knocked the ball down we'd be singing his praises. Personally, I think he's been pretty decent for the most part this year for the role he is playing.

No they wouldn't sing praises. Most would ignore that play and find another one to hate on.

Seriously, what does it say about the other LBs who can't beat out Carpenter? Not much.

Or is it the case that Wade is being stupid and using Carpenter for his experience over lack of talent.

Hoepfully, we can get maybe a 7th rd pick for him next year. Or a player for player trade. Like another highly drafted player who hasn't produced.

Can't cry too much. Carpenter has been as productive or more productive than Jamarcus Russell, Heyward-Bey, and McFadden.

It says they are rookies some who have been injured. Wade is a person who should know a bit more he runs the defense and has ran many great defense over his career. We are heading into week 16 and people want to treat this like pre-season? Play this guy because I have not seen him and he could be good? Please the staff does not have to guess they see them day in and day out. While Carpenter did make a mistake going for the knock down of the pass on the 4th down play he also made some nice plays in this game. I'm also pretty sure that he did not know if the reciever had the yardage or not if he is able to knock the ball down it is our ball

We have 2 players who are not real NFL talent - Carp & Scandrick and we have two guys who are faking it ; RW and Hamlin

Those are four autocuts this offseason

I commented on this in another thread. It was every bit as bad as Roys drop. If not worse. He had a perfect angle to wrap him up from behind, 3 yards short of the first. But he decides to get a pick or break up the play?

That stuff high schoolers do, not pros.

Yes he had some mistakes, but everyone is so eager to jump on him but Bobby also had some nice coverage plays that everybody is failing to point out.

Yup, he had great coverage overall, made the tackle on the screen when James got cleared out yet but people want to bag on him because he didnt make the play against MARQUES COLSTON.

You would think it a good thing that a LB is in position to make a play against one of the best WR in the game.

Who is the dumb *** that had him lined up to cover Colston?

It wasn't a man-up defense. Deep zones/keep-in-front ball. All he had to do was come up and drive through the receiver but he tried to make a play on the ball when it was obviously too late.

It was absolutely ridiculous to watch. If he is in a Cowboys uniform next season I will break something of moderate value in my home.

Bobby is showing improvement but he still seems confused about where to line up and who he his covering. I'd rather have an extra db on the field especially when a team is in obvious pass situations like the saints were.

Actually it was more than likely a zone but when it gets down to it there is no way for us to tell.

HE GOT INTO POSITION AND WAS ABLE TO TRY AND MAKE A PLAY ON THE BALL AGAINST MARQUES FRIGGEN COLSTON.

I am sorry but this hate for Carp is ridiculous. Any other LB we have trying to cover Colston on that crossing route and hes racking up YAC as he is running clear.

He made a couple of good coverage plays last night, but overall he is a huge liability. I think that he will be lit up by any team that plays us for a 2nd time. No team would hire barbie for anything else than special teams work, the guy just can't tackle.

Bobby Carpenter, in my humble opinion, is an upgrade over what Kevin Burnett provided in the nickle LB position.

He's no more a liablity than any other coverage LB in the league.

Really when did the Giants light him up? Has he been 'lit up' all year? Sure he has made mistakes and gotten beat but they do pay the other guys.

Now do I want him having to take on guards? Not really but I have seen him do better with that this season.

He has no business inside in a 3-4; he needs to move to a 4-3 where he is covered up and can run to the ball.

The hate is unfounded and mindless.

Except he doesn't understand game situations very well.

By that I assume you mean the 4th down conversion.

To me, Carpenter simply over ran the play.. nothing more, nothing less.

Carpenter had excellent coverage on a wheel route that forced Brees to throw it out of bounds. Carpenter had nice coverage where he knocked down a pass deep middle of the field. He had good understanding there.

Seems to me, Carpenter getting villified for that 4th down conversion is a little over the top and bordering on ridicolous.

Well, if he went for the kill shot rather than wrapping his guy up; its not ridiculous. If he simply got beat buy a more athletic player; well then stuff happens.

He is god awful in coverage.......Was beaten like a red headed step child by that TE all night. He better not be in against the Skins because Fred Davis is an animal. He would shred Carp......

If Carpenter had really been lit up in a game this year, there'd have been a half-dozen threads about it and not just one.

He played coverage well on Sat. I'll go so far as to predict Wade even mentions something about Carpenter's coverage in a press conference this week. Nothing elaborate, but some reference to him standing out on film during the coaches' review.

I say being a complete waste of space for multiple years before being a niche player is not "unfounded".

And I'd say that being a backup isn't being a waste of space.

There's no reason to hate our backups, or our niche players, just because they didn't meet draft day expectations. By the same token, mischaracterizing their play when they do get on the field is equally pointless.
