I see her point. He's never done commentary before and he gets the prime spot. And he replaces Simms who has been doing it for a long time.
The problem is that Simms got the #1 spot pretty quickly in his announcing career and he has been very stale for years (I don't hate him as a commentator, but he's not exactly thrilling to listen to).
And I usually find with these ex-players and ex-coach types you need to get them right away because they still look at the game from a player/coach standpoint and aren't afraid to go into detail about what was going on with a play and throw some real football jargon and real football analysis around in their first few years in commentary. But, once those honeymoon years go by, they became a generic version of commentary and start to play the generic announcing game (ala Troy and Collinsworth).
Bonnie Bernstein is actually one of the coolest people you'll ever meet, so I don't think she's doing it to be mean. But, the fact is that this has been going on since the 70's (Cosell hated Meredith because he was a player and not a 'real' announcer) and I would imagine that Bonnie had to know this even before she got into the industry.
