Ryan O'Callaghan is not on the trading block, he may actually start the season at RT for the Patriots. No way, and I don't care where you read it, is O'Callaghan going any place. Let's just say you will have to trust me on this one as I'm 100 percent sure on it.

I live in Cal country and O'Callahan would be an excellent pickup for us. He may have went higher, but he just like 2 other starters missed some time due to injuries. Ryan was easily the best oline prospect coming out of Cal and I have a feeling he will get a chance to start someplace

I remember the Oregon State game where Riley took wind of the injuries to the oline and they got to Booya way too many times. So there is something to say about the guys absence. He is an excellent run blocker, but in the NFl he may have to work more on his pass blocking skills.

Would be a great grab for us, but heck I'm biased and pulling for us to draft Marshawn Lynch next year.

Patriot Forum comments:

Trading players from this draft is pretty unlikely - especially for established players.

We're quick to dismiss the value of Gorin. Let's not forget that the guy is a Super Bowl starter. He started at RT opposite Jevon Kearse in Super Bowl XXIX. I don't remember Kearse making that many plays. Patriots won that game.

Gorin is an established starter in the NFL. He's protected Tom Brady and blocked for Corey Dillon when Dillon rushed for 1600+ yards.

Gorin has been starting with the first line at RT, but sometimes rotates with O'Callaghan. He is also the #2 LT.

Like the Dallas writer said, maybe Shanle for Gorin isn't enough.

This is by no means a case of the Patriots trading away a Bethel Johnson - Bethel was not a starter and was not projected to compete to be a starter.

Some more background on Shanle:

He was picked up after being waived by the Rams. As Dat Nguyen faced some injuries in 2004, Shanle stepped in and played fairly well. He moved into a starting role opposite Bradie James when Nguyen was injured again in 2005 - leading to his retirement. In 2005, Dallas as a team gave up 108 yards rushing per game - right in the middle of the NFL.

Importantly, Shanle has some experience in a 3-4. He played OLB initially, then moved inside to a Will position in the 3-4. For those of you scoring at home, that would be the Monty Beisel position. Also the Mike Vrabel position.

This offseason the Cowboys brought in free agent Akin Ayodele as a starter, and drafted Bobby Carpenter. Recall that they drafted Demarcus Ware at OLB last year. In addition, they are converting Greg Ellis from DE to a big Willie McGinest type OLB. So they have almost completely revamped their LB's.

Now Shanle he is listed behind Akin Ayodele, Bradie James, and Bobby Carpenter at ILB. Ourlads has him behind Ryan Fowler as well. So he is either #4 or #5 on the ILB depth chart currently.

SO:
Shanle has experience inside at ILB. He has some starting experience, although his team was only average against the run during his time as a starter. Shanle has four years total NFL experience, so he will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. His current salary is $721K.

Gorin has experience at both LT and RT. He has plenty of starting experience, including starting throughout the playoffs and winning the Super Bowl. He has five years of NFL experience, and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. His current salary is $585K.

Gorin has more experience, and his team has performed better in his area. He has a lower salary.

Gorin, pretty objectively, seems to have more value than Shanle.

However, Shanle probably has more value to the Patriots. A trade, maybe with Dallas throwing in a 7th, might make sense for both teams.

I'm still waiting for what Dooms81 has to predict here. BTW - I called you Fake Doomsday because of your username being so similar to another user who posts here all the time. I'm not questioning your legitimacy - but I would like to hear what you were crowing about in the other thread.

I vote for ::

OT Ryan O'Callaghan (6-7, 360)- Is a solid player. I like his ability to help the passing game out.

Pats are probably more interested in Ellis, Ayodele and Gurode actually.

They are going 4-3 and this ILB interest is a smokescreen. Maybe Shanle/Coleman showcase was a smokescreen. There was more showcasing going on than the obvious. For those keeping score same could be said about Romo.

I vote for:

Tom Brady QB

I guess if we're being unrealistic, might as well go for it all.

Do the Pats have depth at OG or Center?

I am not surprised they may start Ryan O'Callaghan at RT and not consider offers for him.

I figure a deal will get done, but if anyone thinks Shanle is bringing a stud O-lineman in return or anything other than a serviceable backup then they are placing way too much value at his feet. He was a longshot to make this team and the Pats will know that.

I have no doubt a deal is being discussed and OT might be a focus.

New England needs linebacker depth and Shanle has been rumored to be available. The Patriots would probably trade one of their backup tackles for him.

The fact that a perrenial powerhouse like New England is interested in The Animal should tell us all we need to know....the biggest mistake we could make right now is trading one of our starting LB's for a depth player.

Unless Pioli is willing to cough up Deon Branch or Richard Seymour, The Answer says thanks but no thanks...

Whats the breakdown on these guys? any good?

I wanted the COwboys to draft O'Callaghan, him and/or Daryn Colledge, if we trade Shanle for him, I'd be very happy

that's why I think if it's going to be a scout swap, that it would be Singleton for Gorin

I agree with you on one thread about Romo, and then you go and do this. Shanle a starting LB?? :lmao::lmao: Only if someone gets hurt and retires... this season we'd have to have two or three LBs to get hurt/retire.

If we get one of these two tackles. Any chance we move Petitti to OG. That may be a better position for him anyway with the problems he had against speed rushers maybe we would be better off with him trying OG.

if Parcells wouldn't move Torrin Tucker to OG, no way he moves Pettiti over there
