I posted this in another thread but I think it deserves it's own thread since I'm not sure I've seen this thought on the board before........

If you ask me this (the fact that Burt has stepped forward to pump up the team) points out that even though BP has done a pretty good job here, he is a shell of his former self. The people who know him best could not watch it continue and even worse all of them were watching because it was the Giants on the biggest stage playing for the division.

BP is 65 years old. He doesn't have as much energy in him as he once did and coaching in the NFL is brutal. He is like Muhammad Ali who at the end of his career had Larry Holmes setup a number of times to take him out but just didn't have the youth to do it.

I think BP can get it back for one magical season with the help of those in his large family of previous players. I think the Jim Burts of the world can lend him the energy he desperately needs to get this team to the promise land. But I see this being the end of the road for a magical coach who at the end much like Ali, just didn't have the physical ability to leverage the deep experience that is in his sharp mind.

Let's hope this team has what it takes and his former players can help him through the season to get one on the way out!

What's it going to be then, eh?

After watching the game again, Coach Parcells' animation was not just reserved for the final moments.

He was actually enthused right after the Brad Hoover fumble and I think it was either Fowler or Hoyte he puckered up for.

That was a rare sight and it just seemed to invigorate the entire team. A few displays like that per game might be what this rather sedate team needs from time to time.

I think it was just the NYG game that was so bad that he didn't know wth was going on.

If we need to bring in former players for a motivational boost, then it's time for a change.

It's a heck of a story....the former players rallying around the coach they love, who obviously was downtrodden and not himself.

A fairy tale ending would be great. I really hope Burt travels around with the team. He was cool to see on the sideline. Plus it makes Giant fans puke.

I agree that it is a sign he is about done.
Former players coming back to help the old man.
Hopefully he can pull it out this year because he doesn't have the energy to make this happen any more.
Parcells actually has been showing weakness, fear and depression which is a different side of him.

I think one reason he looked so down during the Giants game was because he finally came to the realization that it was the end of the line for his good buddy Drew Bledsoe and he had a very tough decision to make.

And it wasn't just Parcells that seemed to lack enthusiasm ... the whole team has for pretty much the entire year. As Parcells stated ... no one (obviously including the players) was having any fun. Now they are.

Parcells' "zombie" demeanor didn't just start this year. Last year toward the end of the season he looked like he was on Prozac. I actually thought he might be because of the death of his brother, which would, of course, have been understandable.

I think back to the Skins game in D.C. last year...Parcells looked lost out there. He was not the fiery coach we saw in NY, NE or at the Jets. As bad as we were playing he was totally out of it. No fire or anger whatsoever! I wondered back then what in the heck was wrong with him.

I do believe you are correct that age has a lot to do with it, but I also believe Parcells' wise guy demeanor is a cover for some basic insecurities he has and the fact was he was being embarrassed out on the high wire every Sunday and with Bledsoe at QB he didn't have the answers on how to fix it.

I disagree completely. BP is not ready to ride in the Hearse.

As he said to Antonio Byrant....."I have one good fight left in this old body and don't make me use it on you" :D I love that quote................I believe he is not ready to ride in Hearse but the horses are resting up for him to ride into the sunset at the end of the season.

Not now with Romo's enthusiasm and potential, but if Parcells had been forced to stay with Bledsoe because he didn't have a better alternative at QB, Jerry would have been Parcells' pallbearer.

How the hell are you going to act when your team is getting beat in every facet of the game? You can get on your players, but thankfully Parcells has been around long enough to know that in those cases, it's useless.

I think all of us would reneg on this opinion of BP as this 'tired, done coach' if we saw him in the locker room or with his players behind closed doors.

Well, he certainly used to use that approach when he was winning SBs so the question that was raised by even his former players is what was wrong with him now that he wasn't doing that?

I was thinking the same as you until the outpouring from his previous players. Those guys know him better than any of us ever will. Even the current players have commented on how they have NEVER seen him the way he was leading up to the Panthers game. Again, I think he is a great coach and mentally the game has not passed him by at all. But he may be at the end of the era where he has the energy for it. I for one think this could lead to a magical year where the players (past and present) win one for the Gipper.

I think we've all noticed that expression of submission in BP's face. It is all too common. I think the Carolina game was an aberation, and he will fall back to his old, "glass is half empty" mentality.

This guy has got to go. Obviously, we are stuck with him for this season, but I would love it if they brought in a positive coach like Jim Tressel. When he talks about his players, he doesn't refer to them as "that player", or "Number 88". He uses their God-given name. Sometimes he even uses their nicknames. The old Marine drill sargent tactic only lasts so long before the professionals get tired of it. Tressel brings a positive, let's all get together & go kick some a** mentality. He has won several national titles with Youngstown State, & one with Ohio St. From the looks of things, this year could bring another title. The guy just knows how to bring in great talent & uses them to the best of their ability.

As much as I love the Buckeyes, I would love to see Tressel on the Cowboys' sideline.

It's much ado about nothing, if you ask me.

I think Bill has plenty left. Everyone has felt like Bill looked in the Giants game. It happens. I don't think it was indicative of anything other than he was really upset with his team and couldn't put his finger on what the problem was.

Of course, we all now know that the problem was behind center and that has been taken care of. Parcells looks rejuvinated just like the whole team does, thanks to one Tony Romo.

Bill has the knowledge and the energy to get the team where it needs to go... and he now has the QB to do so. I think it's folly to think that Bill looks worn out and can't lead the team any longer. All the team needed was a QB who wouldn't drag the team down with bad reads and numerous sacks. If a team ever needed a QB with "Moxie", this one did.

Because he's older by a significant amount. If you can find anybody on earth who is as active and vocal at 65 as they were at 45 I will recant my previous message. People change over the course of 20 years. It happens.

Football coaches are still people. The problem is that Parcells is infinitely harder on himself than any outside agent, so when a game comes along like that Giants one, people get worried - especially when you're that old. He's a recluse when he loses like that (if you don't believe me, read Michael Lewis' piece on him in the newest Play mag), and I'm not surprised that a guy like Burt took notice. It doesn't mean he's "done" or any bullcrap like that. It's just how he's always been since he has been here.

And have you EVER seen him more upbeat than he was against the Panthers since he took the job here? Ever? Thank you Tony Romo... in more ways than one.

Sure he is going to be more fiery with a team he thinks can go to the dance.
I really don't think he's quite sure what he has here. I think Romo is giving him more hope though.
